Assistant General Counsel

Job Summary:

The Chief Counsel, Illingworth Research Group (VP level) will be responsible for overseeing the legal work and legal integration into Syneos Health of Illingworth Research Group. The successful candidate will be a proactive, detail-oriented lawyer who can enable the current and future operations of Illingworth Research Group, a Syneos Health company (“IRG”), in a manner in compliance with regulatory requirements.

Job Responsibilities:

• Act as chief counsel for IRG and a liaison between the IRG business and the Office of General Counsel (OGC).
• Provide strategic legal advice and support on a broad range of matters to enable IRG as a distinct business unit and its integration into overall Syneos Health policies, practices and business offerings.
• Provide proactive legal support that enables the business of the company in a risk-managed way.
• Ensure regulatory and licensing compliance for IRG.
• Engage with global legal teams within Syneos Health.
• Collaborate with Ethics & Compliance colleagues, including the Chief Data Privacy Officer, on compliance initiatives related to IRG.
• Collaborate with global Legal team colleagues, on, among other things, employment, contracts, and litigation matters related to IRG.
• Support compliance investigations as needed in connection with IRG.
• Participate in the development and implementation of corporate wide policies, process governance, controls and strategies, particularly as they apply to IRG.
• Manage and coordinate legal projects related to IRG.
• Manage external counsel relationships related to IRG.
• Deliver legal and best practice training to the IRG business.

Qualification Requirements:

• Fully qualified lawyer.
• Strong knowledge and experience in Health Care law, and particularly the US Healthcare regulatory regime.
• Ability to collaborate with colleagues and take a business-oriented approach while identifying and balancing legal risks and providing succinct, accurate and pragmatic advice.
• Exceptional analytical skills, independent judgment, a desire to learn, and an ability to take on and prioritize a wide variety of complex matters.
• Outstanding relationship-building skills.
• A can-do attitude, able to work under pressure, with tight deadlines and to manage the expectations of clients.
• Prior experience at a top-rated law firm.
• Experience working in-house with a publicly listed multinational company (preferred).
• Sense of humor is a plus.
• Minimum 10 years experience.
