OBJECTIVES:
The person selected to fulfill this role will be responsible for supporting the patent attorneys and agents in our offices in all procedural and substantive matters regarding the preparation, filing and prosecution of US and international patent applications.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Assisting in the preparation and filing of US and International patent applications and completion of related formalities, all in conjunction with internal attorneys and patent agents, outside counsel and foreign agents;
Reviewing, docketing and saving emails/documents in docketing system for assigned portfolios;
Maintaining the integrity of the data in patent management systems by making necessary updates and addressing all issues related to assigned portfolios;
Creating new cases in docketing system
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Taking formal documents for certification or Apostille at the Secretary of State’s office and other agencies, as needed;
Working on special projects as needed
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
Bachelor’s degree or accredited paralegal certificate or relevant work experience in the patent field.
3+ years working experience as either a patent prosecution paralegal or patent assistant (preferably in a law firm, supporting patent attorneys in the biotechnology or pharmaceuticals field)
Excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritize and multi-task including maintaining and updating a docket, tracking correspondence and documents, and maintaining accurate records
Solid analytical skills and communication skills
In-depth knowledge of and extensive experience and competency with US patent prosecution procedures and regulations, including docketing, document preparation and electronic filing
Exceptional competency with patent prosecution rules and procedures under the Patent Cooperative Treaty (PCT) and in foreign jurisdictions
Must be self-motivated, be able to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
Must be able to work independently
Must have experience docketing in either Patricia or Anaqua patent management system
Public notary a plus
