Hi, I’m Steve James, Assistant General Counsel at Puppet,

I’m looking for a talented and collaborative Associate Counsel to join our small but amazing legal team. In this role, you will attend to various legal matters and primarily support our go-to-market efforts, including drafting, reviewing and negotiating agreements with our customers, partners and vendors. This role will play an essential part in driving positive outcomes for Puppet and our customers.

Meaningful work you’ll contribute

Partner internally to manage the contract review process for a variety of commercial contracts to support sales, including NDAs, license agreements, services agreements and data processing addendums.

  • Assist in building and maintaining Company’s contract management policies and implementation and enforcement of contract policies.
  • Participate in and eventually lead customer/partner negotiation conversations.
  • Provide guidance to cross-functional teams on commonly requested edits, non-standard terms, and general contractual questions.
  • Help us continually improve our processes and services and manage change to provide more efficient, agile legal services to our internal clients.

  • A skilled negotiator with a knack for identifying the right solutions that best address our customers’ needs within Puppet’s risk profile.
  • Scrappy and self-directed, skilled at driving forward projects with minimal guidance and limited resources while having the good judgement to escalate issues when needed.

Valuable experiences and skills you’ll bring to Puppet

  • 2+ years experience working with different kinds of commercial transactions (e.g., software licensing, SaaS, outsourcing, facilities, etc.).
  • A working knowledge of GDPR and CCPA (preferred but not required)
  • Ability to clearly draft documents, policies, emails and other communications in a concise, accurate, and digestible manner.
  • An understanding of intellectual property, licensing, privacy, data security and commercial contracts or willingness to learn.
  • Ability to contribute to, and iterate on, contract playbook of fallback terms.
  • Ability to work cross-functionality with different departments and build authentic relationships with all kinds of people across many functional teams.
  • Flexibility to adapt and thrive in an environment that is constantly changing as we grow and adapt as a company and legal department.
  • Eager to chip in wherever and whenever help is needed.
  • JD required. Bar admission and in good standing in at least one state.
