The Senior Counsel, Antitrust is part of a team of legal specialists with a mission to deliver top-quality strategic, legal solutions to WestRock. The successful candidate will have significant experience in the negotiation and drafting of various types of commercial agreements involving, among other things, customer agreements and procurement agreements. This Sr. Counsel position will work closely with other attorneys in the department in identifying, analyzing and resolving sophisticated antitrust issues in the agreements that the WestRock Legal Department has been asked to handle. This position will also work closely with senior management at all levels of the Company, sales management and account representatives in providing guidance regarding antitrust compliance, day-to-day business transactions and business strategies.
The Senior Counsel, Antitrust will be actively involved in antitrust training and will have broad discretion to initiate and implement best practices in the Company’s antitrust compliance program. This Senior Counsel will engage in M&A transactions that include coordination with outside antitrust counsel for HSR reporting purposes as well as the integration of acquired companies into the WestRock operations. This is a challenging and fulfilling opportunity to assume the lead legal role in a growing organization’s best in class antitrust function.

How you will impact WestRock:
Providing antitrust guidance and support to sales force, procurement representatives, and senior management regarding standard antitrust issues
Reviewing and drafting customer agreements, teaming agreements, and other contracts involving cooperative efforts with third parties
Engaging in significant HSR efforts in the acquisition of other companies with outside counsel
Conducting regular antitrust training that includes webinar presentations for broad distribution to multiple groups of WestRock employees and specific antitrust training or guidance on one-off issues that may arise
Assisting the Chief Compliance Officer in ensuring compliance with the Company’s domestic and international antitrust programs
Drafting periodic memoranda regarding recurring issues and new developments in the antitrust law for broad distribution to all Company employees who engage in activities that are regulated by the antitrust laws
Preparing and delivering focused webinars and other types of presentations to specialized employees on antitrust legal topics of interest

What you need to succeed:
Seven + years of experience in the areas of antitrust compliance, counseling and guidance, and HSR efforts, whether in-house or with a prominent law firm
Bar admission in good standing in the U.S.
Juris Doctor degree from an accredited college or university
Be able to prioritize multiple assignments and responsibilities in a practical and fast-paced business environment
Have strong negotiating skills
Be a proactive self-starter who is comfortable identifying complex antitrust issues with confidence to provide advice on issues that may not be subject to precise resolution
A demonstrated ability to effectively influence and motivate others along with strong collaboration and project management skills
High personal standards of excellence and capacity to learn rapidly
Excellent research, analytical and decision-making skills
Capable of handling sensitive information in the strictest of confidence
Adaptability to work with different personalities and changing priorities
