The Columbia Sportswear Legal Department protects company interests across the globe, advancing company strategy through high quality advice, and support to all brands and regions. As Columbia Sportswear’s Sr Trademark Analyst, you will be responsible for managing the global trademark portfolios of Columbia Sportswear Company and its subsidiaries, including SOREL, Mountain Hardwear, and prAna. You will be responsible for providing timely, well-informed legal analysis and services in the areas of trademark prosecution and enforcement, preliminary domestic and international trademark screening searches, and trademark conflicts. You will communicate, collaborate and advise in-house clients regarding the availability of names and general trademark-related matters.

HOW YOU’LL MAKE A DIFFERENCE

  • Conduct, review and analyze trademark searches and advise of availability of trademarks for use and/or registration
  • File and prosecute U.S. and International trademark applications before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and WIPO, including filing applications, amendments, responses to office actions, extensions, statements of use, Section 8 & 15 affidavits, renewals, assignments, name changes, and other related documents
  • Document and monitor deadline dates for all domestic and international trademark applications, registrations, and conflicts
  • Manage international trademark portfolio by working directly with local foreign counsel regarding trademark clearance and strategies for registration, renewal, and opposition of marks.
  • Manage, and maintain database portfolio of trademarks, conflicts, oppositions, settlement and co-existence agreements, customs recordation, licenses, copyrights, domain names and other intellectual property agreements
  • Research and analyze third party uses of potential infringing marks and make recommendations for the best course of action; review trademark watch reports
  • Assist with enforcement proceedings, including gathering necessary evidence and assisting in trademark litigation, domestic and international customs recordation, management of domain name portfolio, including securing, renewing and transferring domain names, and conducting legal research as appropriate on various trademark issues
  • Prepare powers of attorney and other documents, obtain signatures and arrange for domestic and foreign apostille, notarization and legalization as necessary

YOU ARE

  • Organized with keen attention to detail
  • Collaborative, driven to build partnerships with team and cross functional partners
  • Communication savvy, capable and comfortable communicating with foreign counsel

YOU HAVE

  • 5+ years of legal or paralegal experience
  • 5 years of trademark portfolio administration experience
  • Applied international trademark experience/knowledge
  • Solid understanding of TMEP and the nuances of trademark examiners
  • Litigation experience a plus
