Job Description: General Counsel
Reporting to: Chief Executive Officer
 
Downtown Denver-based Company seeks a dynamic General Counsel who is highly-organized and has experience working with both business clients (including executives and front-line employees) as well as managing other lawyers on various projects. Under the general supervision of the Chief Executive Officer, the General Counsel will be responsible for managing a broad range of the day-to-day activities of the Company’s legal department. This will include providing hands-on counsel to all levels of executive staff, identifying and analyzing legal issues, drafting key documents, presenting clear recommendations to top management, and assuring legal compliance with local, state, and federal laws and regulations. In addition, the General Counsel will be responsible for managing outside counsel in several legal specializations including corporate, litigation, IP, etc. The successful candidate will have a minimum of 10 years of related experience, will be able to handle a wide range of legal questions with practical solutions, manage competing priorities and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
 
Responsibilities:
  • Advising executives, management, internal business clients, accountants and marketing staff on wide range of legal topics
  • Preparing, reviewing and negotiating company contracts and other legal documents
  • Researching and anticipating unique legal issues that could impact the company
  • Manage and advise the company and the board of directors on any manner of issues
  • Reviewing advertising and marketing materials to ensure that they are in compliance with legal requirements
  • Providing training to the company on legal topics
  • Manage of central tracking system for all contracts, including expiration dates, renewals, options and other significant rights and obligations
  • Manage outside counsel
  • Manage internal legal resources including lawyers and paralegals
Qualifications: Candidate must meet the following qualifications:
  • JD from accredited law school
  • Admission to a state bar
  • Minimum 10 years’ related experience working in a corporate or law firm setting, reviewing and drafting a variety of contracts, managing legal resources
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with real estate transactions and leasing, specifically within the hospitality context
  • Experience with international/cross-border operations
  • Experience drafting, negotiating and interpreting complex transactions
  • Experience in a public company environment
  • Demonstrated commitment to providing exceptional service to business clients
  • Demonstrated judgment and ability to analyze problems, propose resolutions, and provide advice that is creative, practical and reflects strong legal acumen
  • Demonstrated ability to work under high-pressure conditions and to successfully handle urgent situations with patience and diplomacy
  • A resourceful self-starter, results and success-oriented, with the ability to ensure timely follow through by company employees
  • Willingness to relocate if necessary to the Denver metro area
Required Skills: To perform the job successfully, an individual should demonstrate the following competencies:
  • Luxury Travel Experience – Experience in the luxury travel industry is preferable
  • Project Management – Complete understanding of management principles necessary to set goals, staff, direct, plan, coordinate, evaluate and report; strong organizational and time management skills
  • Problem Solving – Ability to work independently and as part of a team; must be able to solve problems in a timely manner, gather and analyze information, and work well in collaborative group situations
  • Communication Skills – Detail oriented; clear and concise oral and written English language communication skills required, including proper grammar and e-mail etiquette, capable of distilling complex information into concise summaries supporting thoughtful, well-reasoned recommendations
  • Presentation Skills – Able to demonstrate a clear ability to create presentations that succinctly demonstrate the essence of the material being presented.
  • Interpersonal Skills – Strong interpersonal skills and customer service orientation
  • Adaptability - Adapt to changes and pressures in the work environment; manage competing demands, and changes in approach or method to best fit the situation; able to deal with frequent change, high-pressure conditions, and effectively and professionally handle stressful situations, delays, or unexpected events; appreciates opportunity to adjust and adapt with growing business; ability to quickly learn new areas of the law and the business

Compensation - $220K - $350K Base Salary
  • We believe in building a compensation structure that reflects the comparable market pay rate for positions at companies similar in size, revenue generation and geographic location; in addition to individual factors including seniority, performance-based merit, education/training and experience related to scope of responsibilities.
 
Bonus – This position is eligible for the company’s bonus plan, to the extent offered, at a target bonus percentage of up to 25% of your annual salary.
Benefits – This position is eligible for a health and welfare benefits package including medical, dental & vision insurance.
FAM Trip – This Position is eligible for the Employee Familiarization Travel Program following three (3) consecutive months of employment. This benefit provides you $20,000 in value of property use per year in qualifying Inspirato properties, subject to “peak” period travel restrictions. Notwithstanding the seasonal restrictions, one (1) trip per year may be taken over a “peak” period (excluding Christmas and New Year’s). For this purpose, a “year” is based on the 12- month period beginning on your Start Date and each anniversary thereafter.
