Associate General Counsel

Overview

Glossier is looking for our fifth in house attorney! The ideal candidate is a bright, experienced, business-minded and self-motivated attorney with at least 7 years of experience (prior in-house, start-up experience is a big plus). In this position, the successful candidate will interface with our business team leaders to support Glossier’s legal needs with respect to labor & employment, litigation and disputes, retail and customer service matters, risk management, and general commercial matters. This role will report to the General Counsel.

Six Month Expectations

  • Establish a strong working relationship with the People Team and become the legal point of contact for all employment matters across the business.
  • Establish strong working relationships with the Retail Operations and Retail store teams. This includes but not limited to: help prepare for new store openings, stay abreast of state-specific regulations in the retail space and collaborate on how to operationalize.
  • Develop strong relationships with the G-Team (our online customer service team): Handle any customer complaints that are escalated to the Legal Team, help the G-Team to develop customer-related policies and consistent responses across various types of customer outreach.
  • Become a key collaborator on all “Return-to-Office” and “Future of Work” workstreams.
  • Establish strong relationships with outside counsel in your areas of coverage.
  • Draft and negotiate a variety of commercial contracts.
  • Provide substantive support to the rest of the legal team on an as-needed basis.

Twelve+ Month Expectations

  • Collaborate closely with the People Team to develop, draft, implement and update employment-related policies and procedures to be used by and for Glossier’s employees.
  • Collaborate with the People and Finance Teams on a strategy for remote and international hiring as well as engagement of independent contractors.
  • Oversee insurance renewal and develop overarching insurance strategy.
  • Oversee immigration process for any employee sponsorships, coordinating across the People and Legal Team as necessary.
  • Manage and oversee any disputes, litigation and employee investigations.
  • Conduct periodic employee and manager training in your areas of coverage.

Qualifications

  • J.D. from a top law school with exceptional academic credentials and at least 7 years of relevant experience
  • Must be admitted, active and in good standing with the New York State Bar.
  • Have an EQ that matches your IQ and an ability to deal effectively with all levels of employees and management.
  • Have excellent communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills.
  • Be detail-oriented, organized, efficient and resourceful with strong follow-through skills
  • Have a practical, business-oriented approach to problem solving and be able to effectively counsel clients by providing them with clear, concise and commercial advice, and creative solutions where necessary, on established timelines to meet their business needs.
  • Have a strong desire to learn the business and function integrally as part of an interdisciplinary team.
  • Have an openness to take on new challenges and dig into legal issues with which you are currently unfamiliar.
  • Experience with retail operations a plus.
  • Experience with non-exempt employees a plus.
  • Experience with distributed workforces and international operations a plus.
