Responsibilities:
 
As a Senior Corporate Counsel for Hines, you will provide a wide range of support on real estate and other legal matters to Hines’ Southwest Region (Texas, Arizona, Colorado and New Mexico), including acting as lead counsel on specific real estate transactions. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Develop and maintain a strong relationship with Central departments and Southwest Region personnel to serve as a trusted resource for legal issues
  • Work closely with business partners located throughout the Southwest Region and become an integral part of project teams on all platforms (multifamily, office, industrial, land, retail, self-storage and senior housing)
  • Lead real property acquisitions & dispositions transactions
  • Lead review and negotiation of lender related documents
  • Negotiate asset management, property management and development management agreements
  • Prepare or review a variety of corporate and organizational documents
  • Provide support to Southwest Region through the review and negotiation of vendor and other services contracts, broker listing agreements, non-disclosure agreements, etc.
  • Provide advice on indemnity clauses, guarantees and other provisions; review insurance and indemnity requirements in contracts
  • Assist with review and negotiation of development related documents
  • Partner with outside legal counsel and manage communications and scope of work as requested
  • Guide and oversee work completed by junior attorneys within department
  • Prepare and conduct training for the benefit of junior attorneys and business partners
  • Provide senior-level advice to the Associate General Counsel for the Southwest Region
Qualifications:
 
Minimum Requirements include:
  • J.D. degree from an accredited law school; strong academic record
  • Nine or more years of relevant legal experience in partnerships, real estate, and/or corporate matters.
  • Licensed to practice law, preferably in the state of Texas
  • In-house legal experience preferred, but not required
  • Effectively communicate at all levels of the organization
  • Self-motivated, highly organized and ability to manage multiple projects with high attention to detail
