Job Summary

Divisional Operations Counsel provides in-house legal and regulatory advice relative to topics affecting the insurance and financial services industries; provides legal counsel to operational teams; drafts contracts, policies and product forms; occasionally interfaces with regulatory authorities and reports to management on changes in applicable law and regulatory trends in the industry.

Essential Functions

  • To facilitate the business objectives of the Division(s) supported and Company by providing timely and effective legal support to as well as minimizing potential legal exposure and risk.
  • Responsible for providing and rendering practical, timely, and high quality legal counsel and guidance to the Company division(s) and department(s) to which you are assigned, working closely with the independent Corporate Compliance Department to ensure compliance throughout the organization with regard to applicable laws and regulations


Knowledge and Skills/Technology Used

  • Knows and applies the fundamental concepts, practices and procedures of particular field of specialization.
  • Knowledge of Federal and State regulations
  • Well-developed legal research, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong Organizational skills with the ability to multi task, prioritize and work under pressure
  • Demonstrated ability to manage workload and balance competing priorities.
  • Ability to build and maintain rapport with superiors, peers, subordinates and external company contacts.
  • Microsoft office products


Typical Education

  • Law Degree Required
  • Admitted to practice in state of employment


Typical Range of Experience

  • Typically has 4- 7 years professional experience in area of specialization


License or Certification

  • Licensed to practice law, in good standing
