Victim Advocate - County Attorney (Prescott)

Under the direct supervision, performs advanced casework of considerable difficulty providing emotional support, information and services to crime victims.

Major Duties, Responsibilities

  • Manages a victim caseload of considerable difficulty and size according to division standards.
  • Educates and provides information to victims of crime concerning the criminal justice process, Victims' Rights, and courtroom protocol in a language that is easily understood.
  • Provides emotional support and advocacy to victims of crime during criminal investigations, criminal court proceedings, prosecutor and defense interviews or depositions.
  • Acts as a liaison between the victim and the Criminal Justice System in order to facilitates communication that will result in a just resolution of the case.
  • Performs needs assessments with victims' and provide information and referrals to social service providers in order to address the victims' physical and emotional needs.
  • Performs other duties as needed or requested.

  • Maintains appropriate security and confidentiality of information created or encountered in the performance of assigned duties.
  • Maintain professional working relationship with external customers, co-workers and supervisor.
  • Adhere to current department and division policies and procedures.
  • Maintain current knowledge of issues related to the criminal justice system, victims' rights, courtroom protocol and new case law.
  • Be an active participant in order to accomplish the mission and goals of the County Attorney's Office and the division.
  • Communicate effectively in both verbal and written form.

Minimum Qualifications

Experience:
A minimum of two (2) years work experience, preferably in criminal justice, counseling, or social services.
Education:
A two-year college degree in a social or behavioral science or criminal justice. Relevant experience in the victim services field may be substituted for the aforementioned education.

Interpersonal Skills:
Courteous and professional behavior when interacting with victims, the public and other professionals.
Other Skills:
Ability to build rapport with individuals of various socioeconomic, religious and ethnic backgrounds.
