Job Description:

In-house attorney providing counsel to Fidelity’s Workplace Investing businesses that provide recordkeeping, trustee and other products and services to employer sponsored retirement plans and their participants.

The Expertise We’re Looking For

  • Education: JD
  • Experience: Minimum of ten years practice with a defined contribution plan focus.
  • In-depth working knowledge of ERISA, Internal Revenue Code and applicable regulations and guidance.
  • Experience with defined contribution plans including pre-approved and individually designed 401(a), 403(b), 457 and non-qualified plans sponsored by corporate, governmental and non-profit entities.
  • Experience with securities laws and privacy laws as they relate to servicing, and investing in, retirement plans.
  • Significant experience working with a range of plan operational and fiduciary issues, as well as Department of Labor and IRS correction programs.
  • Familiarity with federal and state withholding and reporting requirements helpful.
  • Strong practical skills and industry knowledge.

The Purpose of Your Role

As part of the Legal Department, you will provide support to businesses within the Fidelity organization that offer and support defined contribution plan products and services. You will interact with various senior business leaders and groups within the businesses, such as product development, back office/operations, phone support, communications and education, client service (for the businesses’ external clients), and Compliance and Risk groups.

  • Strong orientation to client service (for internal clients) with an emphasis on responsiveness to client inquiries. This includes quick turnaround for the review and analysis of new legislation, regulations and other guidance.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with business partners and others within Legal, Risk and Compliance departments.
  • The ability to respond to questions and explain situations in layman’s terms appropriate for non-legal department business associates.
  • Strong presentation skills for business clients and training internal business associates.
  • Sound analytical skills and a creative mind for problem-solving.

  • Responding to questions from all business associates in the areas you support in a timely manner.
  • Solving problems innovatively, focusing on our external clients and protecting the firm.
  • Assisting with implementation of new clients and/or new product offerings, including service offering changes based on legislative and regulatory changes.
  • Reviewing internal and external materials for accuracy and appropriateness; these include client presentations; online content; and internal systems content.
  • Participating in team meetings to help ensure that you understand the business needs and the business understands the applicable legal requirements.
