Facebook is seeking a highly motivated and experienced privacy attorney and policy thinker for a unique role on Facebook’s legal privacy team to advise the company on a range of privacy and data protection-related legislation and policy initiatives. We are looking for a privacy professional to build and lead a team that will be working closely with Facebook’s Public Policy team and other legal experts around the company, providing strategic advice on the impact of complex legislative proposals and playing a key role in helping Facebook understand and prepare for new regulations around the world. This role requires creativity, curiosity, and flexibility while balancing numerous projects simultaneously with varied stakeholders.You will be advising the company on cutting-edge tech policy issues, ensuring our commitment to privacy and helping the company understand and prepare for new data protection laws and legislative trends. The ideal candidate is excited about taking on and leading complex projects, learning about new legislation and policy developments, thrives in a fast-paced environment and can seamlessly drive success working with multiple cross-functional stakeholders to accomplish bold things. You must also be able to identify issues early and drive to resolution through strong communication, partnership, and consensus-building.

Responsibilities
  • Advise clients on legislative trends and advocacy strategies, including drafting summaries, legal advice, and other legislative analysis
  • Manage, support, and develop attorneys who support data protection-related legislation and policy initiatives
  • Drive internal awareness and consensus around legal trends and help develop proactive positions on diverse data-related policy issues
  • Serve as a legal advisor and resource to legal partners and other company stakeholders on data use and protection laws (including global privacy laws, state and federal consumer protection and privacy laws, and GDPR) and advise on business and product impact
  • Work closely with product counsel and product teams to guide privacy-forward product development and evaluate the impact of privacy laws and regulatory rule making
  • Drive high-profile and high-impact projects involving privacy analysis and compliance with cross-functional stakeholders across Facebook's business, policy, legal, communications, security, and other departments
  • Help develop regulatory strategy with global privacy regulators in connection with new laws and regulations
Minimum Qualification
  • J.D. degree (or foreign equivalent) and membership in at least one US state bar
  • 8+ years of legal experience, including at a law firm and/or in-house experience
  • Experience advising on privacy and data protection matters or experience advising on public policy matters, including legislative drafting and position development
Preferred Qualification
  • In-house legal experience advising the development of technology products and business initiatives
  • A demonstrated personal interest in privacy legislation and other tech policy issues
  • A willingness to and aptitude with partnering across different groups and individuals within the company and the privacy team
  • Experience advancing projects in a multi-stakeholder environment
  • Experience prioritizing work, providing advice under deadlines, and strong attention to detail
