Job Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Provide support to multiple attorneys and interface with internal and external stakeholders
  • Regulatory assistance with the Council of the City of New Orleans (“Council”) and/or Louisiana Public Service Commission (“LPSC”) matters
  • Prepare regulatory filings with the Council and/or LPSC and oversee any service requirements for filing.
  • Pull relevant documents, proofread and edit documents, organize exhibits and affidavits, and execute other task as assigned to prepare filings or reports
  • Support attorneys in periodic reporting; maintain deadlines for and assist in meeting deadlines, prepare, maintain and update reports used internally and externally
  • Act as a liaison between legal department and internal departments and outside agencies
  • Assist attorneys in preparing data and discovery responses and requests
  • Administrative support
  • Manage attorneys’ calendar, including scheduling meetings
  • Make external logistics arrangements (e.g., lodging, conference space) for hearings and trials.
  • Handle attorney calls and mail
  • Draft letters
  • Proofread and edit documents.
  • Prepare binders, letters, memos, agendas, minutes, charts, pleadings and other material as directed
  • Document and file management, including organizing, indexing and filing documents and Bates Stamp as appropriate
  • Schedule deadlines from scheduling orders and other responsive deadlines; provide attorneys with advance notice of upcoming deadlines, meetings, etc
  • Manage and prioritize a variety of calls and meetings
  • Factual and legal research
  • Investigate and assemble facts and other data for legal matters
  • Perform legal research on Westlaw or in other reference materials and perform other necessary factual research on internet, etc
  • Input, retrieve and manage electronic documents on the department drives or software as well as in software programs such as Summation or Relativity
  • Summarize, where necessary, voluminous records
  • Analyze & compile data in form required by attorneys (e.g., charts, etc.)
  • Become knowledgeable about issues in and contents of regulatory files and other files assigned
  • Manage confidential information, including preparation of required cover documents
Minimum education and experience needed:
Paralegal degree/certificate and/or bachelor's degree or work experience equivalent
Paralegal I: 0 - 5 years of paralegal work experience
Paralegal II: 5+ years of paralegal work experience
2+ years of experience at a law firm is a plus
Minimum knowledge, skills, and abilities needed:
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office: Word, Excel and PowerPoint and in Summation
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively and in a professional manner
  • Able to handle frequent direct contact with external stakeholders (parties and regulators) and clients at all levels of the company
  • Ability to work quickly and accurately under deadlines/pressure.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to multi-task and work productively as a member of multi-disciplinary team
  • Demonstrated research, writing and editing skills as well as oral presentation
    skills
  • Experience in management of complex data systems
  • Ability to work with others at all levels
  • Maintain confidentiality of departmental issues
  • Attention to detail
  • Regular and reliable attendance
  • Assignments may include overtime and/or weekend hours
  • Perform work outside of these duties, as needed, for storm, restoration or other emergency events
