- Manage patent portfolio and related activities for multiple product/technology areas, including invention identification and harvesting, invention disclosure meetings, portfolio mining, patent application preparation, and prosecution by outside counsel
- Work with legal, product, and engineering teams to identify and protect patentable products, services, and technologies
- Understand Facebook’s strategic and competitive position and think at a high level about portfolio strategy
- Train, educate, and counsel product and engineering teams in intellectual property matters
- Support patent litigation and licensing, as well as patent acquisitions and other IP-related transactions
- J.D. degree (or foreign equivalent) and membership in at least one US state bar
- 8+ years of legal experience, including at a law firm and/or in-house experience
- Knowledge of computer science, electrical engineering or information retrieval, either through undergraduate degree or industry experience
- Experience in one or more of the following: identifying patentable technologies, patent analysis, patent acquisition, licensing and/or handling of third party demands
- Experience and/or deep familiarity with patent prosecution and/or portfolio development
- Experience with software, graphics, graphical user interfaces, social media, mobile apps, networking, and/or wireless technologies
- Experience managing service providers and outside counsel
- Familiarity with patent litigation or licensing
- Interpersonal, leadership, and team skills
