Associate General Counsel, Space & Commercial Networks Segment

Job Responsibilities

Viasat, Inc. seeks an experienced attorney for its in-house legal department in Carlsbad, California, to work with the Space & Commercial Networks business segment. You will focus primarily on providing strategic business and legal guidance in commercial transactions. This includes a wide variety of technology agreements related to space and networking, including manufacturing, licensing, strategic supply, services and software. You must be diligent and proactive, show excellent business judgment and strategic thinking, and be able to work independently and collaboratively in a collegial, fast-paced team environment. Specifically, the right candidate will:

Provide strategic business and legal advice to help develop a comprehensive, long-term approach to our relationships with key customers, partners and suppliers.
Manage drafting, negotiation and advisory responsibilities for strategic contracts supporting the Space & Commercial Networks business segment.
Draft and negotiate a wide variety of contracts.
Advise on risk mitigation strategies.
Create and implement strategies for early resolution of contractual disputes.
Manage, advise, coach and mentor junior colleagues and contracts staff.
Collaborate closely and communicate with other departments and functional areas to ensure strategic visions are achieved.
Assist in other general transactional and corporate matters as necessary.

Requirements

7+ years’ prior experience, preferably in a transactional-focused in-house practice with a leading platform technology company.
Juris Doctorate degree or equivalent with excellent academic credentials.
Demonstrated experience advising clients in structuring complex commercial transactions, including in-depth experience in contract negotiation and drafting.
Strong experience drafting, negotiating and managing contracts.
Prior experience with intellectual property, data privacy and security issues is a plus.
Excellent administrative and organizational skills with attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy, together with the ability to manage several simultaneous projects under deadline pressure.
Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written; must be able to ask clear, concise questions involving complex technology to get requisite answers from business partners and Legal Department colleagues.
Ability to take initiative and adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced corporate environment.
