Facebook is seeking a highly motivated, talented and experienced attorney to join Facebook’s Legal Team providing privacy advice for our core messaging app, Messenger. This role is product-focused and the ideal candidate will be eager to roll up their sleeves and problem-solve on complex, strategic, privacy-forward issues, working closely with cross-functional partners and other legal teams to develop compliance solutions to support these products and services. It’s an opportunity to work on some of the most important issues across the messaging space. You will be joining a collaborative team of privacy lawyers who identify, evaluate and address privacy risk in light of privacy laws, compliance obligations and policies; train other teams on privacy matters; and collaborate closely with other legal teams as well as cross-functional privacy partners to deliver legal advice globally. We are looking for a candidate who has a solid understanding of global privacy laws and principles, is a team player and collaborates well, and is able to practically weigh and manage risks around privacy in a clear and rational way.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain subject matter expertise in areas of data use and global privacy laws (including state and federal consumer protection and privacy laws, GDPR, LGPD, ePrivacy and other global privacy laws) and advise on the impact of the same on Facebook’s business
  • Work closely with product lawyers in evaluating the practical impact of privacy laws, regulatory guidance and enforcement actions, and other related guidelines on product features and development
  • Support members of Facebook’s product, engineering, legal, security, policy, and other business teams on privacy and security-related legal matters
  • Develop regulatory strategy with relevant privacy regulators in connection with new product features and initiatives and maintain Facebook’s ongoing privacy-by-design processes
  • Manage internal privacy compliance programs and processes to ensure we meet our obligations under those programs
  • Help to develop and conduct role-specific privacy trainings
Minimum Qualification
  • J.D. degree (or foreign equivalent) and membership in at least one US state bar
  • 5+ years of legal experience, including at a law firm and/or in-house experience
  • Experience advising on privacy legal risks and mitigations, with strong knowledge of relevant global privacy laws (including CCPA, GDPR, ePD, LGPD, etc.), and/or privacy regulations
Preferred Qualification
  • In-house or government experience with applicable privacy, regulatory, or product counseling, particularly at a technology, social media or messaging company
  • Experience collaborating and advancing projects in a multi-stakeholder environment
  • Demonstrated experience working in a collaborative, fast-paced environment and making judgments under deadline
  • Demonstrated experience to independently, quickly and accurately assess legal, practical, and business risks, and provide clear guidance
  • Business judgment and practical client counseling experience
