Chevron is accepting online applications for the position of Counsel/Senior Counsel located in San Ramon, CA or Houston, TX through November 9, 2021.

Overview: This position is in Downstream, Chemicals & Midstream Law, reporting to the Managing Counsel, Americas Fuels & Lubricants. The successful candidate will provide a range of guidance, including structuring, negotiating, drafting and ongoing management and business advice on complex and time-sensitive transactions with particular focus on support of Chevron’s renewable fuels business.

Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:

  • Executing strategic corporate transactions, including deal strategy, due diligence, drafting and negotiating transaction documents, leading negotiations and handling closings and integration matters for a spectrum of M&A and joint venture transactions.

  • Providing legal support for Chevron’s renewable fuels business, including go-to-market strategy, commercial contracts, and regulatory advice.

  • Establishing processes and playbooks for legal and governance support for Chevron’s renewable fuels joint ventures.

  • Mentoring and sharing of transactional knowledge with other attorneys.

  • Working with various subject matter experts to ensure that transactions are aligned with applicable best practices and company policy.

  • Working with outside counsel on significant transactions.

  • Providing ongoing legal advice to business clients as an integral member of commercial teams.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and Juris Doctorate from an accredited U.S. law school.

  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience providing legal support on significant transactions.

  • Demonstrated excellent written and oral communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in M&A and joint venture transactions, including forming and managing joint ventures; preferably in the renewable fuels space.

  • Significant experience providing direct-client counseling on complex transactions at different levels of experience and sophistication, including to executive leadership.

  • Proven expertise in risk calibration and ability to provide practical, solutions-oriented advice to enable proper risk mitigation.

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively internally across organizations and externally with outside counsel, joint venture and government stakeholders.

  • Demonstrated collaboration and teamwork.

  • Self-starter capable of adapting quickly to a fast-paced, matrixed business environment.

Relocation Options:

Relocation will not be considered.

Expatriate assignments will not be considered.
