Responsible for providing administrative support for legal counsel in the Legal Department. Assist with all aspects of the discovery and litigation process including but not limited to: investigating facts; propounding and responding to discovery requests; preparing responses to subpoenas and documents for filing and all aspects of pre-trial and trial preparations. Coordinating and overseeing with the Risk Department non litigated and litigated claims.

Day to Day Roles

  • Draft legal correspondence and legal paperwork
  • Review legal documents
  • Research statutes, decisions, legal articles, codes and other data
  • Work with attorneys to develop legal arguments, motions and case filings
  • Schedule appointments, court dates and meetings
  • Open litigation case files in a timely manner
  • Maintain and organize litigation case files
  • Close litigation case files and prepare them in a timely manner
  • Compose, type and edit general and technical legal correspondence and other documents containing legal and medical terminology
  • Develop and maintain informational databases and filing systems, generating reports as requested or as scheduled
  • Compile and update manuals and directories
  • Prepare and distribute materials for meetings, presentations, and conferences; keep records of proceedings as required
  • Read, screen, route, file and record incoming legal correspondence and reports

Core Skills and Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree with an emphasis in Paralegal Studies
  • Five (5) years of experience with litigation
  • Knowledge and experience with insurance claim management process and software
  • Experience with preparing responses to third-party subpoenas (including calculation and meeting of all deadlines)
  • Knowledge of legal and medical terminology common to personal injury litigation
  • Excellent verbal and written skills necessary in order to communicate intricate job-related processes
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Experience using Microsoft Office, including the ability to create basic reports, documents, presentations and spreadsheets in MS Word, MS Excel, and MS PowerPoint
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Organizational skills including the ability to prioritize workload to meet deadlines
