The First National Bank of Buhl is a full-service bank serving Minnesota's Iron Range with two branches in the communities of Mountain Iron and Buhl. The Bank was recently purchased by the CEO and Founder of M1 Finance, a fintech unicorn.

What we're looking for

The First National Bank of Buhl ("Bank") is seeking an Assistant General Counsel to oversee laws, regulations, and rules that are applicable to U.S. consumer and commercial lending for the Bank. This individual will report to the VP Compliance, and will be responsible for all legal contracts between the Bank and its partners and vendors, advise management on legal issues, escalate updates to laws and regulations, and help ensure the Bank status as a true lender for the new Banking-as-a-Service ("BaaS") product offering.

What you'll do

Advise Bank on legal matters while providing legal interpretation to management on a wide range of topics
Create legal agreements between Bank and partners to ensure all applicable laws are being observed and protect Bank status as a true lender
Draft and advise contracts with third-party vendors, such as servicing, collections, audit, information security, information technology, card network, card processors, and others
Collaborate with broad Compliance team and the firm on strategic planning and training
Continuously remain informed of changes to all law and regulations and it pertains to the Bank, escalating any potential risks to management

Qualifications

6+ years of work experience as an attorney at a bank, financial technology or finance company, or U.S. law firm
J.D. from accredited U.S. law school required
Licensed to practice law in good standing in one or more U.S. states required (MN/IL/UT preferred)
Experience with commercial and consumer lending laws
In-depth experience in contract drafting and negotiation with knowledge of Banking-as-a-Service industry
Ability to effectively communicate with C-level executives and provide guidance as needed
Inquisitive nature with a desire to challenge the status quo
Must be able to work both in a team and individually
