With over 200 million subscribers enjoying great original content streaming in over 190 countries, it is an exciting and innovative time to work at Netflix. Our company is continuing to change the way people around the world enjoy entertainment, and to increase the audiovisual and storytelling quality that viewers expect. A critical component of that effort is engaging and partnering with a wide variety of visual effects (VFX) and virtual production service providers around the globe to help make the vision of our content creators come to life. To sustain our ambitious content efforts and build a truly global brand providing visually and technically stunning content, it is critical that we properly structure and execute the legal framework between our productions and the VFX and virtual production partners that contribute to our content.

Netflix is seeking a Counsel to be part of the Studio Operations & Partnerships (SOAP) Business & Legal Affairs team within the Content Legal organization. The Counsel will generally support the drafting and negotiation of VFX and virtual production capacity and innovation deals and services agreements around the world, and handle legal matters pertaining to areas such as vendor engagement and management, emerging technology, and bespoke solutions to legal workflows. The Counsel will be responsible for negotiating and drafting commercial agreements, master service and vendor production agreements, statements of work with VFX and virtual production companies, and other supplemental documentation for our films and series across all content genres and many territories. The Counsel will also help with the development and implementation of templates, workflows, and frameworks across various VFX and virtual production initiatives to help establish clearer metrics and tracking of our deals, spend, and paperwork and to help align with overarching efforts to realize tax incentive benefits and volume-based commercial terms.

A critical component of the role will be to provide strategic thought partnership to a variety of cross-functional stakeholders, helping identify the best strategic direction for the business. In their day-to-day, this Counsel will work closely with other members of the SOAP Business & Legal Affairs team, as well as the VFX and Virtual Production business departments, the Physical Production Legal group that supports the needs of our various film and episodic series productions, and other cross functional partners throughout Netflix. This role will report to the Director, Business & Legal Affairs, VFX & Virtual Production on the SOAP team.

Other responsibilities include: liaising with vendors to gather information necessary for legal vetting; interfacing with vendors and internal stakeholders to define Netflix expectations and establish workflows, help resolve issues, and address contractual breaches; and conducting periodic reviews of forms to ensure ongoing compliance with Netflix and legal requirements. The Counsel will ideally drive increased workflow efficiency and help establish more systematic approaches in contracting with vendors and service providers.

This is a demanding and fast-paced role that requires passion, curiosity, and significant initiative. Our aim is to find a resourceful professional who can both support our business in current ways of working, and provide the adaptability and creativity needed to keep pace and help drive innovative new approaches and solutions.
