Samsung is seeking an experienced and highly motivated attorney for our Senior Legal Counsel position. Our qualified candidate will support the Company on a wide range of regulatory matters, with a focus on US Consumer Product Safety Commission (“CPSC”) regulations. Experience with other regulatory areas such as EPA, FDA and DOE is a plus. They will coordinate activities, internally and externally, including advocacy and strategy for various matters.

The candidate will drive strategy, execution, and management of outside counsel on litigation and government investigation matters. They will be responsible for managing various regulatory matters and requests for guidance, and providing advice and recommendations to senior management, other Legal team members, and the Vice President, Litigation & Regulatory, regarding strategy, management, and resolution of matters. In addition, they may also be asked to handle various litigation matters.

The candidate will work cross-functionally with teams to mitigate regulatory risk and to ensure compliance with various legal and regulatory obligations. They will also keep abreast of regulatory developments to ensure the business is apprised of upcoming obligations and risks.

Role and Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

  • Counseling on a wide range of consumer product regulatory issues;
  • Working with other members of the Legal department and all levels of the business to ensure that regulatory requirements and risks are broadly understood and managed;
  • Providing day to day legal support and counseling to internal clients regarding regulatory compliance, especially with regard to Consumer Product Safety Commission regulations and reporting requirements;
  • Ensuring that internal clients are aware of impending changes in regulations and laws that affect the company’s business operations and reporting obligations;
  • Working with Samsung engineers, attorneys, and other business teams as needed;
  • Consulting with outside counsel and technical experts;
  • Developing and implementing training programs;
  • Helping prepare submissions to CPSC on potential product issues; and
  • Participating in meetings with CPSC staff as appropriate.

Skills and Qualifications

Qualifications & Skills

Education and Bar:

  • J.D. from an ABA accredited law school.
  • Admitted to the Bar of at least one state and eligible for admission to the New Jersey as in-house counsel.

Required Skills:

  • 5+ years of experience with consumer product safety regulations with an interest or background in technical/engineering aspects of consumer electronics products.
  • Experience counseling clients in the consumer electronics, telecommunications and/or consumer products industries.
  • Experience with and knowledge of the Consumer Product Safety Act.
  • Experience dealing with government officials.
  • Experience with and knowledge of Food and Drug Administration, Environmental Protection Agency and/or Federal Communications Commission regulations is a plus.

  • Proven track record of strong negotiation, communication, and organizational skills and the ability to influence and build good relationships throughout the organization without direct authority.
