Alnylam is excited to hire its first employment lawyer to join the U.S. Legal team. We are looking for an exceptional lawyer who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative, environment and has a “challenge accepted” approach. The Director/Senior Director, Employment Law will report to the SVP, Deputy General Counsel and will handle a wide variety of employment matters that are core to the Alnylam's business and growth. The role will serve as a trusted advisor to senior leaders of the company in the planning, development, implementation and evaluation of employment and labor relations strategies, programs and policies. Previous experience working on COVID issues over the past year+ is required. This role will advise cross functional teams (not just HR) and will work closely with Employee Relations and Ethics and Compliance. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced leader who is eager to build a new internal function, be independent and creative, and who is ready to roll up their sleeves and work cross functionally to support Alnylam’s growth in a meaningful way.

Summary of Key Responsibilities

  • Partner with Employee Relations and HR to build the Company’s overall approach to people management
  • Provide counseling and support to our Employee Relations team, HR Business Partners and the business on employee agreements, including offer letters, non-compete and non-solicitation agreements, performance management, investigations, accommodations and leaves, involuntary terminations, reorganizations and other employment-related matters
  • Support and advise Talent Acquisition team on interview process, background checks and offer documentation
  • In partnership with HR respond to employment-related subpoenas, garnishments and related documents and requests
  • Partner with external counsel and assist with managing immigration matters
  • Advise on labor and compensation issues, including FLSA classifications and various pay policies
  • Partner with Employee Relations (and Compliance) in the creation and delivery of trainings related to employment law matters, such as harassment training and other manager trainings on a variety of topics
  • Partner with Employee Relations and Compliance to develop, coordinate and manage employment-related projects, including internal process reviews, new policy roll-outs and implementation, and training programs
  • Evaluate and manage employment-related legal risks and provide solutions for resolving employment disputes, including negotiating with plaintiffs counsel and attending mediation
  • Collaborate with a cross-functional team to support internal Covid-related matters, including the development and implementation of policies and procedures for vaccination, testing and accommodation requests
  • Manage and drive strategy on pre-litigation and litigation matters
  • Manage and work with outside counsel and appropriately assess when consultation with outside counsel is appropriate
  • Keep up to date on and ensure compliance with all applicable Federal, State, and City laws, regulations and policie

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor degree with excellent academic credentials. Applicant must be a member in good standing of the Massachusetts Bar or another Bar in the U.S.
  • The ideal candidate will have at least 8-10 years of experience in labor and employment law, both law firm and in-house experience considered, representing life sciences companies and global experience a plus
  • If employed in the U.S., being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 as defined by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is required.
