Summary

This position is located at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. As an Assistant General Counsel for General Law and Ethics, you will provide legal/policy advice in areas of law which may include government ethics, procurement, fiscal and budget, intellectual property, government records management, labor, employment and information collection, protection, and dissemination. You will supervise a subordinate staff of attorneys and support staff who handle legal matters in these areas.

Responsibilities

As an Assistant General Counsel for General Law and Ethics, you will:

  • Serve as legal advisor to the General Counsel, Deputy General Counsel for General Law and Ethics, and other senior officials on legal issues within the General Law and Ethics portfolio and the intersection of law and policy.
  • Manage the analysis of questions of statutory and regulatory interpretation under relevant statutes, regulations, and guidance issued by federal government agencies. Formulate conclusions and recommendations, and present findings to senior CFPB management. Establish priorities and due dates, and monitor progress and results.
  • Collaborate with other offices to ensure that the legal dimensions of policy initiatives are identified at an early stage and adequately addressed. Formulate policy recommendations and recommends alternative courses of action.
  • Speak authoritatively on legal matters within areas of responsibility, and represent CFPB at meetings and conferences. Provide briefings, draft speeches and draft testimony for senior CFPB staff regarding legal issues within areas of responsibility.
  • Supervise a workforce of attorneys and support staff. Plan work assignments on a strategic, multi-year basis. Ensure work is accomplished in accordance with established and emerging policy and practice. Lead, motivate, and develop employees, establish performance objectives, conduct performance evaluations, and initiate performance-based actions and awards.
