The Edward Jones Legal Division is seeking a dynamic thought leader and advisor who can provide pragmatic, solutions-oriented, and actionable legal advice to drive implementation of enterprise-wide, cross-functional privacy and records management initiatives. Responsibilities will also include assisting the firm's Chief Privacy Officer, who leads both the firm's Privacy Program, as well as the Records and Information Management (RIM) Program, with, among other things: the daily operation of both programs; development, implementation, and maintenance of policies and procedures; monitoring program compliance; and investigation and tracking of privacy incidents.

A successful candidate will seamlessly interface with various firm business areas to identify and evaluate privacy and information governance risks. He or she will also assist in the design and implementation of best-in-class strategies and processes to eliminate, mitigate, and control such risks. Candidates should be highly motivated and knowledgeable about privacy, information security, and information governance. The position requires an understanding of program management and an aptitude for implementation of risk mitigation strategies, as well as an ability to influence other firm leaders.


This position provides independent thought leadership and guidance at a firmwide level to firm leaders in the areas of privacy, information security, and information governance, and the individual selected will be responsible for demonstrating strong initiative with measured results in the following areas
  • Supporting the overall day-to-day operation of the Privacy and Records and Information Management (RIM) Programs by providing legal guidance to business teams in these areas.
  • Assisting the Chief Privacy Officer with operationalizing the Privacy and RIM Programs to ensure existing and new internal processes, client-facing products and services, and human resources teams comply with federal, state, and provincial legal and regulatory obligations the United States and Canada.
  • Assisting in the development and management of enterprise-wide procedures to ensure the development of new products and services is consistent with firm privacy policies and legal obligations imposed by federal and state laws and regulations.
  • Assisting in formal and informal privacy risk assessments to understand the risk landscape and to implement risk mitigation processes and procedures.
  • Developing, disseminating, and auditing compliance with Privacy and RIM policies.
  • Assisting in developing privacy and RIM training materials and other communications to increase employee understanding of firm privacy policies, data handling practices and procedures, and legal obligations imposed by federal and state laws and regulations.
  • Conducting internal investigations into incidents that involve the loss or misuse of personal information.
  • Identifying and evaluating information and privacy and information governance risks, generally, and design and implement best-in-class strategies and processes to eliminate, mitigate, and control such risks.
Ultimately, this self-starting individual will be responsible for providing specific, actionable guidance in the areas of privacy, information security, and information governance, as well as for providing recommendations and implementation plans for the mitigation, elimination, and control of privacy and data risks and go-forward and actionable privacy, information security, and information governance strategies to reduce legal and regulatory risk.


  • J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school.
  • License to practice law in Missouri, or a reciprocal state.
  • Minimum eight years progressive experience in an in-house or law firm environment with a focus on privacy and information security, records management, or information governance required.
  • One or more of International Association of Privacy Professionals, Certified Records Manager (CRM), Information Governance Professional (IGP), or a similar certification preferred.
  • It is crucial that the candidate has the ability to:
  • Identify and evaluate information and privacy and information governance risks, generally, and design and implement best-in-class strategies and processes to eliminate, mitigate, and control such risks.
  • Understand and resolve privacy, information security, and information governance issues.
  • Recognize privacy implications of our current information and records management structure.
  • The successful candidate must demonstrate initiative, leadership skills, independent thought, and exceptional judgment, and have the ability to innovate and add value in a dynamic corporate and regulatory environment.

  • Knowledge of, and experience with, federal (US and Canada) and state/provincial privacy, records management, and information-security-related laws, regulations, self-regulatory standards, and industry best practices.
