WhatsApp helps people connect and share no matter where they are in the world.The Director & Associate General Counsel of Product Compliance will play a key role in supporting WhatsApp’s compliance with new legal and regulatory requirements all around the world. We are seeking a seasoned, team-oriented legal compliance leader with demonstrated ability to influence, design, implement and execute programs. The ideal candidate will have the ability to move fast, navigate ambiguity, and collectively make an impact.
  • Serve as primary legal compliance advisor to intake, assess, implement and monitor new and existing legal obligations relevant to WhatsApp’s products and services arising from contracts, settlements, laws, regulations, among others.
  • Advise on and help drive adoption of compliance requirements that effectively manage new and existing legal risks and embed compliance in WhatsApp’s internal controls, as well as in its platform, product and services designs.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to engage executive and regional leadership on new legal obligations to ensure awareness, assess the impact and risks of new legal obligations, and provide and receive feedback.
  • Collaborate with compliance and risk subject matter experts to develop common guidance on new legal obligations and drive WhatsApp stakeholders to implement solutions, including by coordinating across WhatsApp product counsel.
  • Work closely with the New Legal Obligations (NLO) team and different compliance and risk subject matter experts to align to global frameworks where applicable and develop guidance on how new legal obligations are managed at WhatsApp.
  • Serve as a strategic business partner, advisor and leader who can influence product and business partners in building and executing compliance solutions.
  • Enhance and scale the policies, processes, and tools that translate new legal obligations into internal controls and product implementation requirements.
  • Undertake special projects and support other compliance program initiatives, as needed.

  • J.D. degree (or foreign equivalent) and active membership in at least one U.S. state bar.
  • 12+ years of practicing attorney experience.
  • Compliance-related experience.
  • Experience providing programmatic legal guidance across a wide variety of legal issues to business stakeholders.
  • Experience delivering practical advice under pressure and experience operating within ambiguity and prioritizing work.
  • Interpersonal experience and experience collaborating with teams to solve problems, including skills leading projects or programs that rely on - and bring together - multiple teams.
