Senior CounselParticipate in regulatory proceedings in state utility commissions to advocate for electric and natural gas deregulation and the creation of rules and procedures that facilitate fair and competitive deregulated energy markets. Managers a Regulatory/Compliance team or individuals.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assume primary responsibility for representing IGS Energy regulatory matters in assigned states and other states as needed.
  • Represent IGS in litigation and rulemaking proceedings before public utilities commissions in geographic areas where IGS provides retail electric and natural gas service, including Ohio, Pennsylvania, Illinois, Michigan, Maryland, New York, Massachusetts, California, and Texas.
  • Assist in maintaining IGS’ compliance with the rules and regulations in the states in which IGS operates.
  • Draft mass-market sales contracts and research laws and rules that relate to compliance issues.
  • Perform various business and legal functions for a number of IGS’ non-core businesses, including solar, compressed natural gas fueling, and home services.
  • Manage Regulatory Counsel, Regulatory Analysts, and/or Manager, Compliance.

  • The ability to work collaboratively with adverse parties, industry groups, outside counsel, lobbyists and internal team members.
  • Ability to digest large, complex volumes of information and summarize for wide dissemination.
  • Strong oral and written communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
  • The ideal candidate will have excellent writing, analytical, and litigation skills. Preference will be given to candidates with a trial experience, background in economics, and understanding of competitive retail and wholesale natural gas and electric markets. The candidate should have the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment, meet deadlines, and communicate complicated legal and regulatory
  • principles to business leaders. Candidate should identify proficiency with Microsoft word and excel.

Minimum Education & Experience:

  • Juris Doctorate degree from an ABA accredited law school.
  • The candidate should have 5+ years of legal experience and be admitted to practice law in at least one jurisdiction in which IGS does business, preferably Ohio, Pennsylvania, or Illinois.
  • Experience with working with utilities commissions, legislators and other regulatory bodies is preferred but not required.
