The Iowa Utilities Board is seeking a full-time paralegal. This position works closely with the managing attorney and performs detailed and accurate legal, secretarial and administrative work for the Regulatory Law section of the Board. This employee manages the workflow of Board dockets; supports Board attorneys in drafting memoranda, Board orders and legal documents for submission on behalf of the Board in administrative law and court proceedings; and performs other administrative work for the Regulatory Law section as assigned and required.

The successful candidate must be highly organized and able to perform duties using a variety of technical programs and office equipment; have excellent English, grammar, punctuation and spelling skills; have experience composing routine letters and memoranda; and have the ability to proofread documents for errors and formatting preferences. The ideal candidate must have a desire to learn the Board's organization, functions, procedures and legal terminology and demonstrate an ability to maintain accurate and detailed records; analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action; handle highly confidential matters and maintain confidentiality; and provide a high level of initiative, effort and commitment toward completing assignments efficiently, against deadlines and with minimal supervision.

The candidate must exhibit honesty, integrity and high standards of ethical conduct and be committed to quality service while demonstrating an ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, board members, attorneys, and stakeholders. This position requires the employee to work and communicate with internal and external clients and customers to meet their needs in a polite, courteous and cooperative manner. The successful candidate will demonstrate responsible behavior and attention to detail as well as the ability to follow complex oral and written instructions; accept direction and respond appropriately to supervisors; follow policy; and align behavior with the needs, priorities and goals of the organization.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Graduation from an accredited paralegal program;

OR
experience equal to two years of full-time work as a paralegal or a similar support capacity under the supervision of a practicing attorney.
