MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Possession of a license to practice law in the state of Louisiana, plus five years of experience as a practicing attorney.

To serve as a principal assistant to an Attorney-General Counsel 2.
Level of Work:
Manager.
Supervision Received:
Broad direction from an Attorney-General Counsel 2.
Supervision Exercised:
Line over lower ranking attorneys and clerical employees.
Location of Work:
May be used in any of the twenty major agencies depending upon size and scope of legal program.
Job Distinctions:
Differs from Attorney Supervisor by serving as the primary assistant to an Attorney-General Counsel 2.
Differs from Attorney-General Counsel 2 by subordinate relationship.
Assists the chief legal counsel of a large legal division in administrative and/or legal matters.
Represents the department in more complex and important litigation before trial and appellate courts and administrative tribunals.
Drafts and reviews the drafting of new legislation. May testify on the same before legislative committees and other tribunals.
Prepares and reviews the preparation and negotiation of departmental contracts, requests for proposal and other legal documents.
Plans, organizes, directs and controls work activities of the division as assigned by the General Counsel.
Develops or assists in the development of budget recommendations for the division.
Coordinates the selection and assignment of subordinate staff, identifies staff development needs and assures that training is obtained.
Prepares and may review the preparation of briefs and other activities incidental to litigation and court work.
