You will serve as a trusted advisor to members of our sales organization who own these accounts and support their day-to-day initiatives and long-term strategies. Success in the Role: What are the performance outcomes over the first 6-12 months you will work toward completing?
  • Success for the candidate will be demonstrated through the following:
  • Be a trusted legal and business advisor to the Global Financial Services sales teams.
  • Negotiate, draft and provide strategy for complex deals with our Financial Services global customers, including solutions such as software-as-a-service and subscription services, professional and consulting services, on premise software, and support; as well as data privacy and security issues.
  • Review and analyze various regulations/guidelines that affect financial services customers (such as OCC Guidelines, EBA Regulations), and provide advice and counsel to VMware’s various stakeholders on policy and practices around such regulations and guidelines; you may also create deliverables and materials (internally and externally) based on such guidelines and regulations.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for the Legal team in relation to financial services-related deal negotiations and critical revenue impacting activities.
  • Develop and execute on a focus on client service, customer satisfaction and practical, smart risk-taking.
  • Drive continuous improvements in our contracts and negotiations, and related templates, tools and processes in collaboration with our GLS STAR Operations team.
  • Show exceptional collaboration skills with legal colleagues and peers across the region and in other geographies and areas of subject-matter expertise to a collegial atmosphere, provide quality support to the business and present a unified and coordinated face of “one Legal Team”.

Required Experience & Qualifications
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience as a practicing lawyer, with at least 4 years of in-house experience with either a technology company with a SaaS/Subscription business model, and/or a financial services institution and its procurement of technology services (including cloud/subscription services).
  • Experience working in a complex, matrixed organization and with all levels of management, consulting with key stakeholders.
  • Member of a State Bar and in good standing.
  • JD or equivalent law degree from an accredited law school.

This position will report directly to the Director & Assistant General Counsel, East Region, Commercial Legal Group. The Commercial Legal Group is a team of lawyers distributed across the globe that support VMware’s world-wide sales organization by providing complex transactional support and strategic advice and counsel.
