The Legal team at H1 plays a central role in creating that future. Working with people from all parts of the company, H1 Legal advises on company strategy, implements company policies, contracts with customers and vendors, and addresses a range of legal questions from data licensing and privacy law to corporate governance and transactions. The Legal department strives to be an excellent service organization and maintain great working relationships with all parts of H1.
 
We are seeking a driven, thoughtful, passionate commercial counsel to support our rapidly expanding SaaS business. Replace billable hours and law-firm fire drills with intentional, ambitious startup work-counseling internal stakeholders, owning commercial agreements, and shaping how H1 operates its business. Those already in-house will find a chance to build new skills and take on more responsibility in a lean department.
 
WHAT YOU’LL DO AT H1
In this role, you will work directly with company leadership and a range of teams who partner with the Legal department to build and sell H1 products.
 
You will:
  • Work within a driven legal organization that helps propel H1 forward and is building a culture where productivity, accountability, excitement, and humor are part of every day.
  • Draft, revise, negotiate, and manage to execution contracts with H1 customers and vendors.
  • Advise sales, product, engineering, and partnership teams about contract terms and related legal questions (data privacy, data licensing, IP, and more).
  • Contribute to improving and implementing processes for executing contracts, NDAs, and other legal documents.
  • Assist the General Counsel with novel legal matters and corporate governance.
  • Contribute to the development of successful business strategies.
  • Roll up your sleeves and take on new, challenging tasks as a high-growth business continues to expand.
ABOUT YOU
The right individual should be a fastidious corporate attorney who loves commercial transactions and is enthusiastic about serving as a leader and developing new skills as an everyday business counselor. We are looking for someone who approaches work with energy, professionalism, and good humor. You should bring with you excellent communication skills, experience managing multiple responsibilities at once, and the desire to assert ownership over assigned projects down to the smallest detail.
 
If you have BigLaw and/or Startup experience, that’s a plus.
 
REQUIREMENTS
  • Between three and six years of experience handling commercial transactions, with an emphasis on SaaS and data licensing preferred.
  • Experience with data subjects (data privacy, data licensing, IP) and an understanding of SaaS business models.
  • Proven ability to lead, manage, and juggle priorities across multiple projects and workloads without compromising output quality.
  • Excitement about learning on the job and seizing leadership opportunities.
  • Familiarity with DocuSign or other contracting software.
  • Effective communication skills, including clear and concise writing and the ability to partner with stakeholders at all levels of an organization.
  • Demonstrated grit, resilience, and tenacity, with a desire to succeed on your own terms as we grow.
  • Exacting standards for details.
  • J.D. and admission to at least one state bar.
