Position Overview:
The Senior Associate General Counsel - Labor & Employment is responsible for leading a team of professionals in its handling of all labor and employment, litigation, compliance and regulatory matters for the company. The ideal candidate will have at least ten (10) years of combined law firm and in-house experience managing complex labor, employment, compliance, litigation, and regulatory matters, as well as leading teams of lawyers and legal professionals in their handling of the same.

Job Responsibilities:
Under the direction of the Company’s General Counsel, serve as the leader for the labor & employment, litigation, compliance and regulatory Center of Excellence (“COE”) team in providing legal and business consultation in furtherance of the company’s objectives, including:

Manage and develop legal strategy for all labor and employment matters for the company, in partnership with human resources and senior leadership
Conduct and manage complex internal investigations and conduct efficient hotline management
Develop and deploy a comprehensive, enterprise-wide compliance and ethics strategy that enables Scoular to effectively manage risk and promotes and ethical culture and a commitment to compliance with the law
Partner closely with the General Counsel and relevant internal client groups on governance matters and/or COE related matters impacting senior leadership
Lead and/or support cross-functional crisis management teams
Work collaboratively across a range of operations and service partners, developing and maintaining strong working relationships between legal, finance, operations, and other functions to address operational, financial and strategic risks to the business
Support operations and services groups in their day-to-day needs as they navigate issues arising from complicated compliance and regulatory schemes
Provide support to international businesses related to labor and employment, compliance and regulatory matters, in partnership with associate general counsel, international and tax
Support culture of continuous learning by providing proactive training and learning opportunities for operations and services leaders
Grow, develop, and effectively manage the talent on the labor & employment, litigation, compliance and regulatory COE

Supervise the work of the team undertaking labor and employment, litigation, compliance and regulatory work, as assigned, in the following areas:

Labor and employment charges and litigation and commercial litigation matters Compensation and benefits matters
Labor/union related matters
Employee, recruiting and employment related matters, both international and domestic
Immigration benefits and compliance matters
Safety and OSHA/state safety agency matters
Subpoenas and document requests
Third party compliance and regulatory audits
Domestic environmental matters
Miscellaneous compliance and regulatory activities
Proactive training and learning opportunities for business and services leaders

Build and enhance effective professional networks, including:
Outside counsel partnerships
In-house counsel counterparts
Internal services and operations partners
External regulators and industry group officials

Lead and direct strategy toward building a culture of integrity:

Requirements
Minimum

J.D. and licensure in at least one state.
At least ten (10) years of prior experience in the following areas: law firm and in-house experience in labor and employment, litigation, compliance and regulatory, preferably leading a team in each of these areas.
Experience leading change management efforts.
Experience conducting and managing complex internal investigations.
High learning agility, ability to navigate change, and manage a diverse portfolio of work.
Experience managing teams of lawyers and/or legal professionals, with a demonstrated ability to join and lead a new team with sophisticated leadership and change management skills.
Complex and creative problem-solving skills.
Experience investigating legal problems and/or issues and developing solutions for the same in partnership with business colleagues.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Business acumen.
Ability to partner with business colleagues across the organization to resolve conflicts and drive creative solutions.
Responsible, assertive and self-directed, yet with a customer-service orientation; effective collaborator.
Excellent independent judgment and decision-making skills.
Excellent oral and written communication skills, and strong interpersonal skills.
Demonstrated aptitude for strategic thinking, an ability to anticipate problems, a track record of timely completion of projects and assignments, and a keen ability to summarize and explain legal complexities.
High attention to detail.

Preferred

Experience in the agriculture, food, and/or logistics spaces.

Equipment and/or technology used:
Must have the ability to operate a standard office telephone, use a keyboard, view and read computer screens, and run other office equipment.
Must have excellent PC skills.
Knowledge of MS O365, and SharePoint, is preferred
