Who we're looking for

Zendesk is currently looking for an attorney to join the legal leadership team reporting to the General Counsel who is interested in joining its dynamic (and fun) legal team! You will supervise the employment and litigation counsel while delivering practical advice to time-sensitive employment, recruiting, and benefits related legal matters. No two days are the same!

What you'll be doing

  • You exercise good business judgment and will provide practical, sound advice in the midst of an evolving business landscape
  • Work closely with the HR and management teams, and oversee a team of lawyers to provide advice, with the support of outside counsel where needed, on a broad spectrum of employment law issues that may arise throughout our global offices
  • Partner with internal collaborators to determine strategy and approach on global employment-related policies, guidelines and processes, and agreements with an approach that balances pragmatism, risk and compliance
  • Oversee litigation lawyer, in partnership with outside counsel, of a diverse and wide range of litigation and pre-litigation matters
  • Manage outside counsel handling both employment and non-employment litigation, including management of budgets
  • Draft, revise, and update employment-related documentation and agreements
  • Assist with Zendesk’s compliance and employee training efforts, global equity plans, diversity and inclusion initiatives, executive compensation matters, sales compensation matters, corporate legal matters, and contingent workforce
  • Work cross-functionally with teams across legal and the business
  • Support Legal department and team related projects

What you bring to the role

  • 8+ years of relevant experience, combined in-house and law firm experience
  • Experience leading, managing, or supervising others
  • Ability to understand business decisions of internal clients in order to more effectively communicate and resolve issues
  • Strong work ethic, ability to adapt to rapidly-changing environments, and commitment to meeting work deadlines
  • Experience supporting international business operations and partnering with HR and other professionals across multiple regions
  • Work independently, exercise practical business judgment, and organize and prioritize workload
  • Establish relationships across functions and provide clear explanations to members of other teams
  • Mentality that no task is too big or too small and a willingness to work together towards solutions with integrity, diplomacy, and tact
  • Collaborative, upbeat work ethic where you can take ownership and have fun
  • Understanding of the impact of a highly satisfied, excited team and enjoy working across multiple time zones and cultures
