Minimum qualifications:

  • JD, equivalent degree, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 3 years of attorney experience working in employment law firm or similar in-house experience.
  • Admitted to the bar and in good standing or otherwise authorized to practice law in the state of hire.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience managing complex class, collective, or representative litigation, governmental audits or inquiries at the federal and state level.
  • Experience interacting with EEOC and state and local EEO agencies on complex matters.
  • Experience in advising and implementing HR/employment policies, data protection and intellectual property ownership issues in the employment context.
  • Experience with advising on employment and executive compensation issues related to mergers and acquisitions activity.
  • Direct or indirect (e.g. via a secondment) in-house experience.
  • Experience in a U.S. multinational corporation.

In this role, you will be primarily responsible for managing a litigation docket consisting of all types of employment litigation, ranging from large-scale multi plaintiff actions to individual charges and demands. You will also serve as the primary employment attorney for at least one of Google’s small-to-medium internal business units and work closely with the People Operations organization to handle and support compliance, employee issues, internal investigations, audits, and pre-dispute conflicts.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and supervise outside counsel on all types of employment litigation, including class, collective, and representative actions, single plaintiff actions, matters involving novel legal theories, agency charges, audits, and pre-litigation disputes.
  • Respond to EEOC, OFCCP, Office of Civil Rights, DFEH and other state and local agency inquiries and charges.
  • Provide advice on a broad range of employment issues, including HR practices, performance management, terminations, recruiting, hiring, compensation and benefits, wage and hour and labor relations.
  • Draft employment policies and programs that balance legal risk with business impact.
  • Draft trainings and materials related to litigation practices and strategies.
