The successful candidate will work on a variety of disputes.  Areas of focus will include complex commercial litigation, unfair competition, consumer deception,  intellectual property (including patent, trademark and copyright), intermediary liability, and and other related matters. This role will work on and assist through all stages of the litigation process, including initial case assessment, factual investigation, discovery, third-party subpoenas, briefings, ADR, and supervising and collaborating with outside counsel.  This role may also include certain intellectual property clearance and (non-litigation) conflict responsibilities. In addition, this role will provide proactive and reactive business advice to help minimize litigation risk, and otherwise assess litigation risk.  This role will report to Wish’s Associate General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer.

  • Contribute to a wide range of defensive and affirmative pre-litigation and litigation issues across varied subject matters, both domestically and internationally.

  • Lead and manage certain litigation or pre-litigation disputes, including overseeing outside counsel.

  • Work with internal stakeholders to identify risk areas and develop systems and procedures to manage and reduce risk.

  • Manage internal processes and tools related to litigation, including existing and new eDiscovery and litigation-management tools.

  • Conduct legal research as needed.

  • Conduct factual investigations, including witness and employee interviews as needed.

  • Draft and manage litigation holds and internal tools relating to same. Oversee document collections and manage ESI.

  • Draft meet and confer letters and/or pre-litigation correspondence to opposing party and/or counsel.

  • Learn the Wish business, issue-spot potential risks areas as they may arise, and communicate effectively with Legal and non-Legal teams.

  • Manage case files and email correspondence.

Qualifications

  • J.D. with membership in at least one U.S. state bar.

  • 3-5+ years of legal experience either in-house or with a reputable law firm.

  • Experience advising clients or internal stakeholders on legal issues.

  • Ability to multi-task and efficiently manage numerous matters under time-sensitive deadlines.

  • Organized, with an attention to detail.

  • The desire to have ownership over complex legal issues and a portfolio of cases/matters.

  • Mature, self-starter who sees matters/cases through to the end.

  • Flexible and adaptable in a fast-paced, innovative, and demanding environment.

  • Sound and practical business judgment, intellectual creativity, work ethic, and problem-solving skills.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and a commitment to professionalism.

  • Sense of humor and ability to not take yourself too seriously

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with patent litigation and trademark and/or copyright clearance and conflicts.

  • Prior experience as a judicial clerk.

  • Knowledge of laws and regulations applicable to e-commerce or platforms/marketplaces.

  • Comfortable with Legal Operations-related tools and systems.

  • ESI experience and experience with online review platforms.

  • Project-management experience.
