Assistant General Counsel - Mortgage

Qualified candidates must have extensive experience in federal and state mortgage, consumer credit, and other secured lending laws and regulations, including the provisions of Truth-in-Lending/Regulation Z, RESPA, the Equal Credit Opportunity Act/Regulation B, the Fair Housing Act, the Community Reinvestment Act, the Fair Credit Reporting Act, and UDAAP.  This includes providing legal advice and counsel to senior executives and legal management in connection with the following functions and activities:

  • Mortgage and Home Equity Line of Credit account origination
  • Secured lending product development
  • Issue identification and remediation
  • Data security and privacy
  • Policy and procedure review
  • Review and commentary on proposed or enacted federal legislative/regulatory changes
  • Preparation and review of consumer disclosures
  • Drafting formal responses to inquiries from state and federal regulators

Candidate must have:

  • A Juris Doctor degree
  • A license in good standing to practice law in at least one state
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Proven analytical and organizational skills
  • Demonstrably strong writing skills
  • Experience in managing attorneys and paralegals

Years of Experience (Preferred): At least 8 years of experience in the practice of law and at least 6 years of relevant experience in the mortgage lending industry.

The attorney in this role will provide legal support to the residential mortgage lending business of Citibank.  This attorney will be part of a legal team working closely with business management and will focus primarily and be relied on as an expert on critical regulatory and compliance matters, involving residential real estate mortgage originations.  Originations include marketing activities, sales practices, loan processing and underwriting, fulfillment and funding of mortgage loans in a retail, distributed sales and telesales environment.  Citibank originates  conventional, non-conforming and government mortgage loans.

The attorney will interact regularly with senior business and legal management within Citi.
