Legal.io is working with several established and growing tech companies seeking 100% remote, privacy counsel on a contract basis to support their existing legal teams and business divisions.

What You’ll Do:

Manage privacy program compliance, including data subject rights requests, data inventory, records retention, privacy by design

Counsel and advise on data protection provisions in commercial contracts, including updating templates and negotiating data processing addendums and business associate agreements

Support internal security teams on incident response, threat detection, containment, and mitigation

Drive awareness on data privacy and security issues, including development of training, policies, and guidelines that help business stakeholders spot and address data security and privacy issues as they emerge

Track, plan for, and monitor local, national and global laws impacting privacy matters

Who You Are:

Experienced legal professional with a track record of supporting in-house teams in a privacy counsel role

Highly organized and motivated

Able to work well both as part of a team and independently, with a proven track record of success working with senior management

Positive mentality and willingness to tackle new and ever-changing business needs

Required Qualifications:

J.D. from an accredited law school

Active admission to the bar of any state

5+ years of directly related legal experience

Solid understanding of major privacy laws like GDPR, CCPA, CPRA, and/or PIPEDA

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience representing companies in the technology sector

CIPP/US certification preferred

In-house experience in addition to strong law firm experience

Role Details:

New clients need on a weekly basis

Location: 100% remote

Full time or part time, contract hire for either 3, 6 or 12 month engagements (some contract engagements will have the option to renew, and others may convert to full time direct hire employment upon successful completion and budgetary allowance)
