Legal.io is working with a fast growing technology company that focuses on providing a digital mental health benefits platform for employers. This organization is seeking a 100% remote, privacy counsel on a part time, contract basis to support their existing legal teams and business divisions.

What You’ll Do:

Negotiate and revise data privacy provisions in sales contracts to ensure compliance with global and state privacy laws, such as the GDPR and CCPA.

HIPAA compliance - Explaining the relationship to the client (HIPAA compliance is with members more than employer customers). These questions come up at the consumer sense.

Advise the sales team on data privacy best practices and requirements, including the collection, use, and protection of personal data.

Identify how might privacy law affect product work in a certain area; e.g. answer internal privacy questions via Jira

Working with the security team on privacy related matters

Who You Are:

Experienced legal professional with a track record of supporting in-house teams in a privacy counsel role

Highly organized and motivated

Able to work well both as part of a team and independently, with a proven track record of success working with senior management

Positive mentality and willingness to tackle new and ever-changing business needs

Required Qualifications:

J.D. from an accredited law school

Active admission to the bar of any state

CIPP certified (most important)

7+ years of directly related legal experience

Solid understanding of major privacy laws like GDPR, CCPA, CPRA, and/or PIPEDA

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience representing companies in the technology sector

Healthcare privacy certification

In-house experience in addition to strong law firm experience

Role Details:

Anticipated Start Date: Immediately

10-15 hours per week (will the possibility of increasing)

6 months

Hourly Pay Rate: $100 - $150 per hour
