What you should know about our Associate General Counsel, Lending role -

In this position within the Legal Department supporting Flagstar’s Commercial & Private Bank, you will provide primary transactional and strategic legal support and oversight as the Associate General Counsel, Lending with a focus on supporting the various lending businesses under the Commercial Bank.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Provide legal advice and counsel on a variety of matters relevant to the commercial lending activities of the bank.
  • Advise and counsel commercial lenders and bankers on structuring and documenting a variety of credit and banking transactions.
  • Provide transactional support, including the review, negotiation and drafting of various credit and collateral documentation, confidentiality agreements, term sheets, commitment letters, assignments, amendments, and waivers.
  • Oversee and manage internal and external counsel handling commercial lending matters.
  • Advise Special Assets and Collections colleagues on troubled credit situations, waivers, amendments and forbearance agreements.
  • Maintain standard commercial loan documentation and procedures relevant to businesses covered.
  • Coordinate appropriate legal training for lending colleagues

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 10 years of relevant commercial lending transactional experience practicing at a law firm and/or in-house legal department at a commercial bank or other financial services company.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and decision-making skills under pressure
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize to meet deadlines
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Juris Doctorate from an accredited institution required
  • Licensed to practice law in the State of New York

Compensation:

Flagstar Bank offers a base salary in this position with a range of $200,000-$250,000, dependent on qualifications and experience.
