POSITION SUMMARY

Counsel is a junior position within the Legal Department that is held by a lawyer with strong legal skills and the ability to deliver business-oriented, effective and efficient legal services and counseling on business or corporate matters or in a particular specialty practice area (e.g., litigation, mergers and acquisitions, securities law, privacy law, health law, technology law, or employment and labor law).  The lawyer in this role is comparable to an associate in a law firm who can do legal work as an individual contributor (with some guidance and oversight from his or her manager in most instances).

 

Will be in office 1-2 days per week.

 

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Track emerging HR trends, laws, and regulations and provide guidance on incorporating new or modified requirements or best practices into applicable policies and procedures.
  • Provide on-demand compliance advice on applicable employment laws, labor laws, regulatory requirements and HR policies and best practices.
  • Partner with business and functional stakeholders on proactive risk consultation and legal advice to effectively mitigate risks and comply with local, state, and federal labor and employment laws and regulatory requirements.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with external partners, regulatory bodies, and industry organizations to monitor frameworks, internal controls, and processes to drive efficiency, accuracy, and compliance.
  • Partner to prepare and present reports on HR risk management, compliance, and governance activities to senior management and other stakeholders.
  • Partner with HR Shared Services, HR Centers of Excellence and Corporate Compliance to assess and address HR risk management practices and overall corporate risk management strategies, enabling continuous improvement in HR processes and controls.

 

 

 

 

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must have a minimum of 3 years of experience as a lawyer combined with expertise in labor and employment law and compliance. The lawyer in this role should have sufficient expertise in those areas of legal practice that are necessary to provide legal counsel effectively to his or her clients.

 

Law Degree - must be a graduate of an accredited law school and admitted into the state bar.

 

MINIMUM SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITY REQUIREMENTS:

  • Thorough understand of employment and labor laws and regulations
  • Expertise and experience to undertake projects with minimal supervision in most instances
  • Ability to build knowledge of Cencora’s businesses and industry policies and practices Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing Strong interpersonal skills
  • Excellent judgment and ability to resolve legal issues effectively Strong presentation skills
  • Strong organizational and project management skills; attention to detail Ability to follow and interpret legal trends Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
