Summary

The Counsel will provide legal assistance on aspects of U.S. Seniors Housing legal transactions, including, without limitation, acquisitions, dispositions, joint ventures, and development matters.

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Advise investment teams and development teams on U.S seniors housing development deals, acquisitions, dispositions, joint ventures, management agreement negotiations and operator transitions, and provide guidance and subject matter expertise on documentation related thereto.
  • Problem solve creatively to propose solutions and help the investment team achieve objectives and goals.
  • “Quarterback” transactions in partnership with the investment team.
  • Liaise with internal stakeholders at Welltower during the course of a transaction.
  • Manage and develop productive relationships with outside counsel, where necessary, to cost-effectively and efficiently manage the company’s domestic business needs and relationships.

TRAVEL

Up to 30% out-of-area and overnight travel may be expected.

Compensation

Salaries may vary by location. The range for this role in New York City is $164,000 - $235,000 plus bonus. Salary determinations are made based on numerous factors, such as, but not limited to, the relevant market and the skill, experience, and education of the selected candidate.

Minimum Requirements

 

  • Education: J.D. from an accredited law school with outstanding academic performance demonstrated. Admission in good standing to the Bar with the ability to become admitted in New York or Texas (depending on location) is required.
  • A minimum of 2 years significant real estate and/or transactional experience, preferably representing REITs or public companies, gained at a top tier law firm or in-house position.
  • Understands commercial concepts that drive real estate and/or U.S. seniors housing transactions.
  • Dynamic and flexible self-starter who can interact effectively with people at every level of the company on a daily basis.
  • Ability to work independently but can be a productive member of a cohesive team.
