We are looking for an experienced attorney to support Microsoft’s growing infrastructure business. The legal team supporting Microsoft’s Cloud Operations + Innovation has an immediate opening in the role of Senior Corporate Counsel, Datacenter Regulatory Compliance. This is a unique opportunity to help Microsoft compliantly build and operate hyperscale infrastructure for its rapidly expanding global cloud.

This attorney will serve as trusted legal advisor to Microsoft’s infrastructure business and help ensure compliance with datacenter focused regulations governing Microsoft’s infrastructure and its license to operate.

Responsibilities

  • Trusted legal advisor to the CO&I business team on data center focused impacting regulations that apply to Microsoft’s infrastructure, including regulatory reporting requirements and cross-border regulations. Provide advice grounded in an understanding of how relevant laws and regulations may impact Microsoft’s infrastructure—both existing and future locations.
  • Partner with a variety of Microsoft subject-matter experts (SMEs) to interpret infrastructure regulatory compliance requirements and ensure Microsoft’s license to operate
  • Contribute to horizontal regulatory compliance initiatives in partnership with, Government Affairs, commercial legal, marketing, and various cross-company SME teams.
  • Partner with Microsoft’s Government Affairs teams to address regulations relevant for datacenters.
  • Developing trusted advisor relationships with business clients and executives.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • 7+ years experience as a practicing attorney with legal experience in the following areas: regulations focused on large-scale (e.g., datacenter) infrastructure, maintaining a license to operate for infrastructure, safety, environmental, technology, trade, and/or cross-border regulations.
  • * OR equivalent practice of law.
    
  • Active license to practice law in a jurisdiction and capable of meeting admission requirements in relevant jurisdiction.
  • Juris Doctor or international equivalent degree
    • OR completion of a legal apprenticeship.

  • The ability to deliver impact through collaboration. You should be a flexible and analytical thinker able to quickly, and accurately, identify legal issues in a complex environment and to develop solutions by exercising judgment in ambiguous situations.
  • Results orientation, customer focus, a commitment to providing the highest quality client service, and a desire to develop trusted advisor relationships with business clients.
  • Capability to work efficiently, meet demanding deadlines in a fast-paced environment, prioritize workflow, and adjust to frequent fluctuations in workload and business imperatives.
  • Experience working in the technology sector and including a keen interest in applying technology, including AI, to improve legal work and efficiency.

Legal Counsel IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $141,800 - $248,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $179,300 - $268,900 per year.
