The Associate General Counsel position is responsible for overseeing the resolution of customer and regulatory complaints, including initiating investigations and communicating with affected parties. The role involves drafting responses to customer and regulatory inquiries related to the loan origination process, generating reports, and identifying trends and necessary corrective actions. The Associate General Counsel will provide legal analysis and counsel on various legal issues related to day-to-day origination compliance matters and the loan origination process.
Position Location: Madison, WI
What You Will Do
Leads resolution of customer and regulatory complaints including but not limited to initiating investigation and communicating with complainants and branches. Drafts responses for customer/regulatory complaints relating to the loan origination process. Generates reports and reviews for trends, identifies corrective action and reports to the executive team and Board of Directors. Evaluates and provides analysis and counsel on legal issues relative to day-to-day origination compliance matters and the loan origination process from application to closing. Provides assistance to various departments in the formulation of forms and disclosure documents for compliance with all policies and procedures. Independently handles legal matters and projects of a complex nature. Reviews applicable policies, procedures, practices, training materials, marketing materials, consumer disclosures, and other communications for compliance with legal requirements. Performs other general legal duties including project research, contract review, and agreement drafting. Manage licensing for and provide counsel to Fairway’s affiliate. Manage team and day to day operations for assigned staff and/or function. Hires, mentors and evaluates staff. Identifies opportunities for improvement within the department/function. Performs additional duties/projects as needed.
What We Are Looking For
Juris Doctorate (J.D.) Degree from accredited law school and membership in good standing in one state bar. 5+ years of experience with an emphasis on the mortgage origination process at a law firm or larger in- house legal department of a regulated institution. Advanced knowledge and understanding of federal and state statutes, regulations and interpretations governing residential mortgage lending, including TILA, RESPA, ECOA, HMDA and other consumer finance laws. Advanced experience effectively managing relationships with internal and external partners
