Cox Enterprises is currently looking for a Senior Counsel, Intellectual Property to join our team in Atlanta, Georgia.
The Role:
The Senior Counsel, Intellectual Property acts as the key point of contact and provides day-to-day advice to legal colleagues, internal clients and senior management on a range of intellectual property (IP) issues.
Responsibilities:
IP Litigation Support
Manage some IP litigation and pre-litigation activities including the analysis and response to third-party licensing inquiries or cease-and-desist letters.
Strategy, Collaboration, and Portfolio Management
Provide commercially focused advice on IP strategies, policies and practices for a diverse portfolio of companies.
Develop an understanding of the businesses, strategies, products & services, and existing IP portfolios of the Cox companies to effectively determine which IP assets to pursue, protect, and cultivate, across an array of technologies and geographies.
Stay current with legal developments, best practices and benchmarks in IP law and assist internal clients in implementing policies and procedures in response thereto.
Deliver internal legal training and counsel on issues relating to IP and Cox practices and strategies.
Commercial Transactions and Technology Licensing
Provide IP advisory support including licensing questions, assignment agreements, use of third-party intellectual property, IP clauses in commercial agreements, online content (websites, social platforms & channels, apps), IP waivers and other issues.
Draft, negotiate and advise on a broad range of IP related commercial agreements and management of IP transactional work including licensing and IP due diligence exercises.
Provide guidance on inbound/outbound patent license and technology agreements including software licenses, generative AI platforms and technology, and on-prem and SaaS license agreements, when and as needed.
Technology, Software and Source Code Support
Advise business on open-source licenses and compliance, code management and protection when code is created by employees or contracts, generated AI or from open source libraries.
Advise business on inputs, outputs, use of, and licensing for, artificial intelligence technologies, machine learning, and/or cloud computing.
Qualifications:
Juris doctor (JD) from an accredited law school and active license to practice law in at least one state.
8+ years of legal experience as a practicing attorney, ideally in a large law firm, well-established boutique law firm, and/or in-house.
Broad and well-rounded intellectual property law experience including freedom to operate analysis, litigation, IP due diligence support, prosecution, and portfolio management.
Excellent negotiation, drafting, problem solving and analytical skills.
Structured, reliable, well-organized with a strong eye for detail.
Ability to identify and resolve complex legal issues in a business-focused and strategic manner
Strong commercial acumen.
Proactive, with a strong sense of personal responsibility with an ability to work autonomously on a wide variety of projects.
Resilient with an ability to competently prioritize & handle a large workload amid rapidly shifting priorities.

Compensation:
Compensation includes a base salary of $171,800.00 - $286,400.00. The base salary may vary within the anticipated base pay range based on factors such as the ultimate location of the position and the selected candidate’s knowledge, skills, and abilities. Position may be eligible for additional compensation that may include an incentive program.
