Role Overview:

This is an exciting opportunity to craft NETGEAR's approach to product development, privacy, and security while closely collaborating with various teams across the organization. As we expand and evolve, we are seeking a senior legal leader to guide in vital areas of our business.

Reporting directly to the General Counsel, you will work directly with product development, engineering, IT, and marketing teams to lead matters related to privacy, product counseling, security, advertising, marketing, hardware, and other areas as needed. This role involves providing broad, general legal counsel across business functions while collaborating with other subject matter experts.

What You’ll Do:

  • Provide broad privacy and consumer protection counseling across engineering, product, marketing, advertising, software, and hardware devices teams.
  • Identify potential legal risks, including those emanating from newly passed regulations and laws, and develop strategies to address them proactively.
  • Advise on legal and regulatory issues throughout the product development lifecycle.
  • Help lead NETGEAR’s privacy compliance program by advising on compliance with global data protection regulations (GDPR, CCPA, etc.), and lead privacy-related issues company-wide.
  • Provide legal advice on data security practices, including leading cybersecurity risks and incident response.
  • Conduct privacy impact assessments and work with product teams to ensure data protection by design and by default.
  • Develop and implement internal policies, procedures, processes, and guidelines to support legal compliance.
  • Collaborate with teams from various departments to generate innovative legal solutions that mitigate risk and align with business goals. Apply legal expertise, enforcement strategies, industry knowledge, and risk management principles.
  • Prepare, review, and negotiate agreements for product development, such as licensing, partnership, and vendor agreements. Collaborate with product teams to ensure accurate and compliant integration.
  • Support the development and expansion of the legal team by bringing to bear external experts to meet business requirements.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Over 12 years of legal experience, specializing in product counseling and privacy within consumer technology companies, with a preferred mix of in-house and law firm roles.
  • Active bar membership in at least one US jurisdiction.
  • Deep expertise in global data protection regulations, including GDPR, CCPA, and PIPEDA.
  • Experience providing legal guidance on cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, marketing, advertising, and consumer protection.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams in dynamic, fast-paced environments.
  • Exceptional communication, analytical, and negotiation skills, with the ability to influence and engage effectively with stakeholders at all organizational levels.
  • Proven practical, pragmatic approach to counseling and scaling privacy programs.
  • Excellent writing skills, with a strong focus on clarity and precision.
  • Positive and proactive problem solver with a can-do attitude, bringing a resourceful approach to understanding both legal requirements and the broader business implications of compliance strategies.
