About The Role

The Litigation and Legal Manager provides corporate litigation leadership aligned with Hastings’ strategic objectives. This role manages the Corporate Litigation team, oversees outside counsel relationships, and ensures consistent, high-quality resolution of corporate and mass-tort litigation. In addition, the position supports the Chief Legal Officer on a broad range of corporate legal matters, including governance, regulatory compliance, government affairs, and contract management.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead the Corporate Litigation team (5–7 direct reports) through effective coaching, performance management, and mentorship.
  • Direct litigation strategy, reserve practices, and settlement outcomes for corporate and mass-tort cases.
  • Manage outside counsel and other external legal resources to ensure equitable, cost-effective resolutions.
  • Oversee reserve accuracy and consistency for all Corporate Litigation matters.
  • Review open and closed litigation to confirm proper preparation and advantageous settlement or adjudication.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for coverage, exposure, reserve, and counsel management issues.
  • Provide legal support on governance, regulatory, government affairs, contract management, and enterprise risk matters.
  • Travel monthly for mediations, hearings, conferences, and other legal proceedings.
  • Partner with HR and the Chief Legal Officer on policy formation, ethics training, and personnel management within the legal function.

What You’ll Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree, law degree, and insurance education required.
  • CPCU, CIC, API, or AIS designations preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in claims or litigation management (insurance operations experience required).
  • 3+ years of leadership or management experience strongly preferred.
  • Strong working knowledge of policy forms, coverage analysis, reserving, and litigation best practices.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and leadership skills with a collaborative mindset.
  • Proficiency with claim management systems and Microsoft Office tools.
