We have an immediate need for a Legal Technology Advisor to join our Denver office. The Legal Technology Advisor plays a pivotal role in aligning the firm’s technology offerings with the evolving needs of legal professionals. Drawing on a strong legal background and a keen understanding of emerging legal technologies, this role bridges the gap between the IT department and legal teams—ensuring mutual understanding, driving user-centric improvements, and promoting effective adoption of legal technology.

As legal practice rapidly evolves with generative AI, this role operates at the frontier of legal innovation and holds a seat of influence in shaping the firm’s responsible adoption of AI‑enabled tools.

This is an ideal pivot for a former or currently licensed attorney who wants to stay close to practice without billable-hour pressure. The Advocate uses attorney-level credibility to shape technology that fits real legal workflows—advising, influencing, and enabling colleagues across practices—without providing legal advice or representing clients.

This position is non-practicing. It does not involve providing legal advice, representing clients, or accruing billable hours. It leverages legal training and experience to optimize service delivery through the application of technology.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a liaison and trusted advisor between IT and legal teams, gathering input on workflows and user experiences to inform technology strategy.
  • Conduct structured user research with shareholders, associates, and staff (interviews, journey mapping, shadowing) and translate findings into clear business requirements and user stories.
  • Advocate for the needs and priorities of legal professionals in the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of technology solutions.
  • Promote awareness and build user proficiency with the firm’s technology tools and services, demonstrating their strategic value and contribution to legal service delivery.
  • Monitor and evaluate emerging legal technologies, recommending innovations that enhance attorney productivity and client service.
  • Track and assess developments in generative AI; define use cases, guardrails, and ROI; and collaborate with Information Security and the General Counsel on risk, ethics, confidentiality, and data governance.
  • Participate in legal tech pilots and evaluations, capturing stakeholder feedback and advising on practical alignment with legal workflows.
  • Develop and maintain resources that help legal professionals adopt and effectively use firm-approved technologies.
  • Collaborate with IT leadership and project teams to plan and execute user change management strategies, including communications, testing, and adoption.
  • Serve as a backup to the legal technology training team, supporting both content creation and training delivery in one-on-one and group formats.

Required and Preferred Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) and active license to practice law preferred; former practice experience strongly valued.
  • Experience translating legal workflows into technology-enabled processes (legal operations, KM, innovation, or product/BA experience a plus).
  • Experience with legal technology platforms such as iManage, Litera, Intapp, Microsoft 365, e-discovery tools.
  • Experience with the application of generative AI in legal workflows, effective prompt engineering concepts, and AI-powered legal tools (e.g., Harvey).
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a professional presence that inspires trust and credibility among legal professionals.
  • Strong facilitation and storytelling skills; comfortable leading demos and presenting to practice groups.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts into actionable insights for legal audiences.
  • Analytical and user-centric mindset with a talent for identifying process inefficiencies and recommending effective technological solutions.
  • High degree of initiative, accountability, and independence, with the ability to collaborate effectively within cross-functional teams.
  • Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to manage a diverse workload that includes strategic planning, tactical execution, and support.
  • Hybrid role with predictable hours; occasional planned travel and limited evening/weekend work tied to major rollouts—no billable hours or book-of-business expectations.
