Overview:
The Associate General Counsel - Labor and Employment is responsible for developing efficient legal processes for Rogue Fitness, and providing practical advice and counseling regarding general labor and employment issues. The successful candidate will assist General Counsel and the Human Resources Department in the handling of all labor and employment matters related to Rogue. They will coordinate and manage Rogue’s outside labor and employment counsel. The successful candidate will be an effective influencer and will be engaging, teaching and leading team members across the business to work autonomously while remaining aligned with Rogue’s high standards to promote best employment practices amongst all departments.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide in-house legal counsel on labor and employment related matters, including wage and hour, FMLA, benefits, workers’ compensation, and Human Resources issues
  • Supervise, manage and evaluate outside counsel on labor and employment related matters
  • Educate Rogue team members and stakeholders on legal matters, policies and procedures
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable laws, regulations and policies
  • Coordinate and manage employment-related projects, including process and policy reviews, roll-out and implementation of new and revised policies, and training programs
  • Identify and assess legal risks and opportunities within the labor and employment area
  • Manage legal risks and provide solutions for resolving employment disputes
  • Work with HR to create and deliver training on employment law matters, including harassment training, supervisor training, and other topics
  • Coordinate and manage strategy on pre-litigation and litigation matters
  • Benchmark and seek external solutions to help solve current and future business challenges within scope
  • Perform other tasks as assigned from General Counsel from time to time
Qualifications:
  • 5+ years of experience in labor and employment law
  • JD and admittance to at least one state bar
  • Expert knowledge of EEOC, DOJ, DOL and OSHA standards
  • Experience with state and federal employment laws, and with advising and counseling clients on such matters
  • Experience providing advice and counsel related to employee-employer relationships, including discrimination, harassament, workplace accomodation, wage and hour matters, wrongful discharge, recruiting, and other matters
  • Some experience with ERISA, employee benefits, HIPAA compliance and OSHA
  • Employment litigation experience and experience coordinating and driving projects
  • Experience in a fast paced, changing/growing organization
  • Proficiency in conducting root cause investigations, in driving continuous improvement and in training others’ in critical thinking
  • Strong analytical skills with demonstrated problem solving ability
  • Must be able to work in a collaborative environment as well as think critically and draw conclusions based on data to come up with applicable solutions
  • Must be an effective communicator, sending clear, concise and consistent messages verbally and in written form in a timely manner
  • Strong decision making and problem-solving skills, attentive to details, work well under pressure to consistently meet deliverables
