Vice President & Assistant General Counsel – Product & Content Licensing

Position Summary

This role serves as Univision’s primary attorney supporting both streaming products and content licensing. More specifically, this role: (1) will negotiate and draft both product distribution (e.g., Google, Roku) and content licensing deals (e.g., Netflix, Facebook); and (2) will serve as an expert on consumer law compliance and concerns. The role requires an attorney with significant technology transaction and content licensing experience, as well as exemplary legal expertise in consumer law as it pertains to content licensing, subscription products, and digital advertising.

Job Responsibilities

  • Serve as a day-to-day strategic business and legal analyst with respect to Univision’s streaming products and content licensing business, primarily in areas of distribution and consumer law
  • Manage, negotiate, and draft distribution deals for Univision’s current and future streaming products with partners such as television companies, app platforms, wireless telcos, and other content distributors, app partners, social media platforms, and smart device manufacturers
  • Manage, negotiate, and draft content licensing deals for Univision content with partners such as Netflix, Amazon (Prime and Channels), and Facebook
  • Serve as Univision’s consumer law expert with respect to streaming products, including subscription product concerns, payment compliance, and digital advertising
  • Work collaboratively with Univision’s business divisions in creating/launching new products and licensing content, as well as Univision’s relevant legal teams, in order to comply with Univision’s existing agreements
  • Coordinate with Univision’s inbound content licensing team to ensure consistency across inbound and outbound deals
  • Coordinate with Univision’s privacy and data handling team to ensure compliance with Univision’s policies
  • Remain current in legal requirements and best practices regarding consumer law, including active engagement with relevant professionals

Required Skills & Experience

  • Juris Doctor degree
  • Current license to practice law in at least one state; eligible to practice in Florida or New York
  • 12+ years of day-to-day experience negotiating and drafting complex commercial agreements, preferably in the areas of technology transactions and content licensing
  • 5+ years of consumer law compliance experience
  • 5+ years of practical experience with digital technology, social media, and streaming products

Desired Skills & Experience

  • Significant experience leading and negotiating deals with television and other content companies, app platforms, social media platforms, and smart device manufacturers
  • Deep knowledge of applicable consumer laws and regulations
  • Working knowledge of media-related technology, such as app platforms and cloud storage
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and strategically with business divisions to launch new products and craft innovative deals
  • Significant experience navigating compliance with most-favored nations provisions
  • Demonstrated organization, facilitation, communication, and presentation skills
  • Highly collaborative individual with ability to influence others and build strong professional relationships, including with technology, business, and legal partners
  • Deep experience managing high-stakes issues in a professional, assertive, and proactive manner
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to handle multiple, cross-functional projects
