ROLE SYNOPSIS

  • A full-time lawyer is required to join the Digital & Privacy legal team (D&P) to assist bp in delivering this strategy. The D&P team is part of the broader Digital, Applied Scliences, Privacy & Brands legal organization.
  • D&P provides legal support to various digital technology focused groups across bp’s organization and serves as bp’s central data privacy team maintaining bp’s global privacy compliance framework.
  • In doing so, we advise on emerging and digital technologies, cybersecurity and privacy matters, business critical outsourcings, venturing, and general technology transactions.
  • The successful candidate will may be called upon to provide support in relation to any of the above areas.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
  • Supporting digital technology and data related transactions and business models, including the effective identification and management of associated legal risks.
  • Assisting with the development of bp’s cyber security strategy, governance and resiliency programs, including the creation and implementation of digital security policies and procedures and related training and awareness materials.
  • Providing guidance and assisting with the development of intellectual property strategies.
  • Supporting digital security initiatives, including preparing for and responding to cyber security incidents.
  • Driving collaboration with and support to other legal teams as appropriate, including development and execution of transactional strategy, contract drafting and negotiations and interpreting agreements for intellectual property and technology law-related matters.
  • Creating and delivering applicable training to D&P clients and the broader legal function.
  • Instructing and managing external counsel as necessary and within budget.
ESSENTIAL EDUCATION
  • JD degree from an accredited US law school or equivalent.
  • Valid, active license to practice law with capability to serve as in-house counsel in this role.
ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE AND JOB REQUIREMENTS
  • Minimum of four years experience, including with the legal aspects of digital technology and data related matters.
  • A proven record of high-quality contribution to strategy and delivery.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. This role requires engagement with businesses and support functions across bp.
  • Capability and experience advising at all levels of the business on the above areas.
  • Ability to apply sound business judgment to provide pragmatic legal solutions.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced and rapidly evolving environment.
DESIRABLE CRITERIA
  • International experience.
  • Prior in-house legal experience.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Position will likely commence in a remote working model but will return to applicable bp location with the local legal team as and when deemed appropriate.
