Job Description

Key Responsibilities:
The IP Administrator position reports to Microchip’s IP Paralegal Supervisor. In this position, the successful candidate will:

  • Receive, evaluate, code, and process invoices from outside counsel and vendors;
  • Process certain emails and requests that come to the Legal Department email inbox;
  • Review and track incoming correspondence from outside counsel;
  • Sort and distribute incoming mail for legal department;
  • File and organize physical and electronic copies of documents, agreements, and case files;
  • Communicate with inside counsel and staff on various IP matters, including patent, trademark, and copyright matters;
  • Enter data into Microchip’s electronic patent docketing database;
  • Manage trademark opposition actions and be primary communication point of contact with outside counsel and oversight by inside counsel.
  • Prepare draft trademark license agreements from templates, for inside counsel review.
  • Manage trademark filings in coordination with outside counsel.
  • Communicate with internal marketing department regarding IP matters.
  • Coordinate with IP & Litigation paralegals and assist with administrative tasks;
  • Generate tracking lists and spreadsheets as requested; and
  • Perform other duties at the discretion of Microchip’s General Counsel and Managing Sr. Counsel – IP & Litigation

Job Requirements

The successful candidate will:

  • Have strong attention to detail;
  • Have experience with administration within a corporate legal department or law firm (in-house experience a plus);
  • Have experience with supporting IP activities, including patent, trademark, and/or copyright matters;
  • Be extremely organized and able to prioritize numerous tasks to meet deadlines with time constraints;
  • Be prepared to write and proofread typed material for contextual, grammatical and typographical errors;
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills necessary to communicate with and follow instructions effectively from a diverse group of attorneys, staff, and inventors;
  • Be improvement and process oriented; and
  • Work well in a collaborative team environment.

Undergraduate degree desirable, but not required; excellent academic credentials.

Mandatory computer skills: Proficient with Microsoft Office products, including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. Experience with IP docketing software preferred.

The successful candidate will preferably have:

  • At least 3 years’ experience as legal administrator;
  • Experience in the semiconductor industry;
  • In-house experience; and
  • Litigation and IP support experience.
